Mine came a little inacurate, but after I calibrated it (very easy, instructions included) it was dead one. Not quite instant though...more like 3 seconds or so, but thats more than quick enough. The cover also serves as a handle, which is nice. For the price, a great value.

Bought this from Axiom Merchant Marketing through Amazon. The battery worked for ten seconds, then had to be replaced locally. Now it works fine. Design is not so good. The cover of the probe can be pushed onto the end of the handle in order to extend the handle and make it longer, a handy feature when inserting the probe over a hot grill. However, the cover separates from the handle too easily, and I find myself holding only the cover while the probe remains in the food on the grill.

This thermometer has been very useful. It registers the temperature quickly and the numbers are easy to read even with bi-focals. The cover becomes a handle so your fingers don't get to close to the flame when grilling. I would recommend it.

I am impressed with the accuracy and durability of this item, but it is far from "instant read". I conduct several temperatue audits for a major food chain and many of the readings take several minutes to stabilize. Overall, it is worth the cost.

Thermometer reads ok, handle doesn't hold on, tends to fall off, unit is too small to hold without handle attacted.

Nothing better than a product that works as advertised and the Weekend Warrior Digital Thermometer does just that. Not sure I like the "racing stripe" decor, but that's a minor issue. Heck, with that bright orange color job, I never lose it in the utility drawer.Taylor #806 Weekend Warrior Digital Instant Read Thermometer

I bought this as a gift for my husband, a newbie to grilling. He had a tendency to overcook things for fear of serving undercooked and possibly harmful food. By checking the temp periodically with the instant reading on this thermometer, it has really helped him establish times for typical grilled fare. No more dry chicken!!!

I am surprised by how cheaply this thermometer is made for a price of $19. It does not appear to work correctly for the first time. The lights kept indicating an "error" on initial use. I opened the back cover, removed and replaced the battery with the same one, and still get multiple readings and an "error" message. The battery appears to have power and to work fine. The unit also seemed not to turn off until I realized that you must hold the ON/Off button down for 5 seconds or longer to turn off the unit. I tried to get a reading for grilled steaks and also ice water. It took well over 30 seconds to get a reading that seemed in the ballpark but the temp never held steady and the accuracy was highly questionable. To get a replacement through the warranty the product must be mailed to Mexico (there is no money-back policy). I would not recommend. I literally bought this based on the customer reviews I read on this site and I am surprised and disappointed. Maybe this one is just a dud.

I hope they still have them when mine wears out,

Handy chart on handle lists cooking temperatures for poultry, pork, and beef rare/medium/well.
I agree that the cover/handle pops off a little too easily - I put a little scotch tape around the base and now it's very snug. Calibrates with ice water - very handy, easy. Mine was very accurate already. Battery is a common CR-2032, easy to replace with just a coin. Reads Fahrenheit or Celsius. Backlight is handy when grilling outdoors at night. Has a pocket clip on the back and a lanyard neck cord. They claim it's waterproof, but I only get the probe wet when I wash it. Distance from surface of meat to the tip to my hand is about 6 inches, but if I had to sink it deep inside a thick piece of meat over an open BBQ flame, I'd probably wear a mitt. I hope they still sell them someday when mine wears out. I use it every time I bake meat or poultry so it's always done perfectly. It has more features than other models (shows MAX and HOLD temp's, calibrate, backlight).

Hot & Sexy!,

OK, I lied about the sexy. The Taylor #806 Weekend Warrior Digital Instant Read Thermometer was probably named for - if not designed for - the tailgate party, but I purchased it as a backup to my keep-in thermometer for turkey on Thanksgiving. A leading consumer mag gave the Taylor highest marks, and I understand why - it does precisely what it was designed to do. During the holiday season, I used the Taylor for everything from testing the yeast temperature for my homemade dinner rolls, to the 165-degree recommended temp for the inside thigh of the turkey. I now look forward to using it on my grilled masterpieces this summer. The secret to great grilling is not overcooking the meat. The Taylor Thermometer will ensure every guest gets his/her preferred done-ness.
