Another well-done installment in the Team Ten Series,
By A Customer
This review is from: Taylor's Temptation (Tall, Dark & Dangerous, Book 10) (Paperback)
Bobby Taylor is a Navy SEAL, and his best friend is his swim buddy, Wes Skelly. As Wes ships out on an assignment, he asks Bobby to go to Boston to look out for his younger sister, Colleen, who is doing stuff that has big brother in overprotective mode. Bobby goes, but is full of reservations because his feelings for Colleen Skelly are far from brotherly. As this is a serial romance novel, you can probably guess where the plot goes from there. The dialogue is snappy and characters are very well drawn. The conversations between Wes and Bobby, as well as the brief appearances of other SEALs from earlier books work very well. My only knock would be that we never learn much about Bobby's background and history. Normally I wouldn't notice this, but in all of the other Team Ten Books the heroes had a history that was explained, so its absense was noted here. There is a good segue to the next book in the series (expected to be Wes' story) at the end. All of the Suz Brockmann fans who have been waiting impatiently for the next installment of her Team Ten books will be pleased with this effort.

Taylor's Temptation gets an A plus!,

This review is from: Taylor's Temptation (Tall, Dark & Dangerous, Book 10) (Paperback)
Looking for a few hours of fun? You don't need sinfully rich chocolate, smooth whiskey or riveting conversation with an intriguing man. You only need this book! "Taylor's Temptation" is the latest in the Tall, Dark and Dangerous series from Suzanne Brockmann. It tells the story of Chief Petty Officer Bobby Taylor. After an injury during a Navy SEAL mission, Bobby is on R&R and is talked into doing a favor for his best friend and partner since BUD/S training, Wes Skelly. Wes's sister, Colleen is involved in something that could lead her to a foreign country that is overrun with terrorist groups. That is where Bobby comes in. To talk some sense into her. The catch is that he's always considered her his best friend's kid sister - but she's all grown up now and has her eye on Bobby! This book is ENJOYMENT with a capital "E". By page 3 I was grinning like a loon. By page 15 I had a tear in my eye and a warm feeling in my heart as I re-visited some of the other members of Alpha Squad. This book is a great continuation of a powerful series, or can be read and enjoyed on its own. But beware: this book will cause your face to hurt from all the smiling! I've read them all and I believe this one is my absolute favorite! Brava Ms Brockmann! Can't wait for the next installment.

Hero fabulous, heroine very irritating,

I am a huge fan of SB. I've read all her books. And I do like the Navy SEAL series, though I notice the thing keeping the hero and heroine apart pretty much always is the same: The hero is a busy SEAL who is gone on missions all the time, and he just can't imagine any woman putting up with that for long, so he avoids serious commitment.Thankfully, SB does add another wrinkle to this book to keep it from being totally predictable: Bobby, the hero, who figures he can only offer a fling to the heroine, Colleen, since he is never home, feels too guilty to do that because it would betray the trust of the heroine's brother, Wes. Wes is Bobby's best friend and warned Bobby that he better never go to bed with his "little" sister. OK, this brings me to the heroine. I put in my header that I think she's irritating, and here's why: SB, through this heroine, brings up the well-known fact that in the big, bad city, women often feel unsafe. Colleen hates being leered at and her body commented on by men. She is a "stacked" 23-year-old, the kind of woman that gets lots of whistles and catcalls. So what does she do about that sort of thing? Mainly just resent and ignore it. She chooses to live and work in a very bad part of town, and she takes no precautions at all for her safety or the safety of any other women she knows and works with. Not only does she have no knowledge of self-defense (which you'd think her overprotective SEAL brother would have insisted she get years ago), but she has no basic common sense either. Her only "weapons" are charm and refusing to back down even when faced with a threatening group of men. (When that second technique worked, it was only because, unknown to her, Bobby was standing behind her giving his mean face to this fearful gang--and even this obvious proof that her "technique" didn't work didn't wake her up.) More insanity: Colleen actually sleeps with the windows wide open in her apartment, with a fire escape right beneath one of them. And when Bobby is mad about her death wish, she just laughs at him, as if personal safety is a joke. Also, even though a woman she works with was put in a coma from being beat up by mutual enemies, the heroine refuses to take any precautions because she won't take the threat seriously. On top of that, she plans to go into a war-torn Middle-eastern country filled with genocidal terrorists to help neglected, mixed-race orphans--which, OK, sounds noble on the face of it. But...the idiot is dragging along 11 other civilians as dumb as her about safety. AND, to make it worse, she refuses to even consider that Bobby, who insists on going along and has gotten a SEAL team to protect them, might know more about safety than she, and that she should defer to him to save her butt. No way. Her independence is all, even at the cost of her life and that of others. What a jerk! I think that it is great that romance heroines are getting stronger all the time, but this woman is suicidally cocky. How does this presentation of a "strong" woman help women? The answer is, it doesn't. I believe SB needs to read Gavin DeBecker's Gift of Fear and Beauty Bites Beast before she writes her next book and get real about what strong women really look like. Maybe then she can give us a heroine who exists for more in a story (other than sex scenes with the hero) than to stupidly put herself and others in danger so the big, bad SEAL hero can save her from herself.

Loved it!,

This review is from: Taylor's Temptation (Tall, Dark & Dangerous, Book 10) (Paperback)
I'm hooked on this series, and have been waiting for months for this book to come out, ever since I read an excerpt on Suzanne Brockmann's website. Sometimes that kind of anticipation can lead to real disappointment when the book finally does come out, but happily that didn't happen. Bobby, the tall, dark, and usually quiet Seal team member has been in love with his best friend's sister, Colleen Skelly, for years. Colleen has also wanted Bobby for years. So when Wes asks Bobby to go to Boston to talk Colleen out of going on a dangerous earthquake relief mission to Tulgaria, Colleen uses this time alone with Bobby without her brother to seduce his best friend. Loved the character of Colleen Skelly and I was very glad that Bobby ended up with a very strong woman. Loved how Colleen and Bobby interacted with each other, and had to laugh out loud several times at his reactions when she would come on to him. Oooooooh boy, did Bobby and Colleen have sparks flying! They are hot. Suzanne Brockmann has a way with drawing characters out and making them feel like real people, that just draws you into their lives. Wes's reaction when he found out about his best friend and his sister was dead on. I did have a couple small problems with the book though. First of all, it just seemed like Bobby took the whole "your my best friend's sister, so I can't get involved with you" thing just a little too far. It went on for over half of the book, and even after they were involved, he still used Wes as an excuse. It was begining to get a little annoying, but their interactions were still great even through all this. The other thing that has been bugging me. Does it seem to anyone else who reads this series that Wes Skelly has grown taller over the past few books? They have never said his exact height until this book, but in the first few they always described him as being short and wiry. And he was definately described as being short compared to ALL other members of the Seal team. Then in the last book he somehow ended up at around the same height as Blue, and now he is 5'11". Now this may not be the jolly green giant or anything, but I am only 5'3" and I was kind of looking forward to Wes's book since he wasn't going to be really tall. I didn't expect him to be as short as I am, but still I am disappointed that he has been made to be tall after all. It seems he only appeared to be short because he was always seen with Bobby, who is extremely tall. This just seemed to be sort of a cop out to me.

This review is from: Taylor's Temptation (Tall, Dark & Dangerous, Book 10) (Paperback)
I have recently read alot of Suzanne Brockmann, and I have to say that this book of her Tall, Dark and Dangerous series is the best that I have read so far. Bobby Taylor is a great character and being a redhead myself, Colleen Skelly is whom every women should strive to be. Talk about a backbone and daring. She goes after what she wants. I love Suzanne Brockmann and eagerly await any of her new novels. READ THIS BOOK!!!!

This is the first Suzanne Brockmann book that I have read. It was okay. Bobby Taylor's best friend Wes asks him to watch after his sister and keep her safe. Wes never counted on Bobby doing more than watching over Collen. Bobby sure as heck never counted on doing anything more than watching over Collen. Collen, on the other hand, had other plans. She has always had a crush on Bobby and she sees this as the perfect opportunity to go after him. Bobby fights it for all he is worth. He knows that she deserves better, plus he is ten years older than her, not to mention that her brother is his best friend. Bobby is only human and Collen is very persistent. They just both better be prepared to deal with the consequences of their actions. For someone so rough and tough, Bobby sure goes weak in the knees when it comes to Wes and Collen. There was such a big deal about Wes and how he would react, but there was very little story dealing with this. The same with this Morrison character. The reader gets the feeling that something big will happen with him, but it doesn't. Than there is the big trip to another country. The reader is led to believe something big will happen there, but we only read a couple of paragraphs. I thought that a lot of the real story was in what the author didn't say. The story was good. I just thought it could have been better.

This book is lighter and less action-driven than most of the other TDD books, but it's a keeper in its own right. It's a can't-put-down page-turner like all the others. I could completely empathize with both Bobby's torment over being torn between his loyalty to his best friend and his ever-growing desire and Colleen's frustration with Bobby's determination to "do the right thing". The dialogue leaps off the page and into your head, and there were many times I laughed out loud. If you're already a fan of Suzanne Brockmann, and especially of the TDD series, you won't be disappointed. If you're unfamiliar with the ongoing series of characters from the previous Navy Seal books, prepare to become obsessed with finding the 9 others! And if you're still not convinced about whether or not to order this book, you should know that I'm a new mom of a three month old baby. I spent 5 hours straight snuggled in bed with this book one afternoon (while the baby was with grandma), and I didn't fall asleep once!

.........for a Temptation Novel.I love it and I have read all of Ms Brockmans books (so why did I not give it 5 stars.....have you read Prince Joe (oh my, oh my..I'm melting...help) Why do I love it.....strong and sensitive Alpha Males. Suzanne, Linda Howard, Cherry Adair these are authors that provide alpha males like chocolates to a chocoholic.........yummy. Others have said that we don't know to much about Taylor's background........so what it? How many of us actually look at the ingredients to chocolate..not me (but then I have a serious addition to chocolate) I'm hungry......

Taylor's Temptation by Suzanne Brockmann
Silhouette Intimate Moments # 1087 - July 2001 Bobby Taylor has been attracted to his best friend's baby sister for awhile now. Wes has always told him that there'd be hell to pay if any of the SEALs ever went near Colleen. Bobby took a bullet in the shoulder for Wes during the last op. When Wes is called to duty, he asks Bobby to stop his sister from going on a Humanitarian Aid mission in a soon to be war zone. Colleen's thrilled to finally have Bobby around without Wes. She's had a huge crush on him since she was 15 and now she's got the opportunity to see where this can go. Bobby is torn between his desire for Colleen and his loyalty to his best friend, Wes. Very well written. The turmoil in Bobby is very believable; his loyalty to his best friend is admirable. Colleen makes a delightful temptress and proves to be Bobby's weakness. This is a book to be read over and over again!

Not with MY sister!! A great story and addition to TDD!!,
By AnnMarie Cairo (Tampa, FL) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Taylor's Temptation (Tall, Dark & Dangerous, Book 10) (Paperback)
Suzanne Brockmann has done it. Again! ... with a new spin, of course!... This time around Ms. Brockmann gives us the "Not with my sister!" spin on romance. US Navy SEAL Chief Petty Officer Robert Taylor is given the dubious duty of playing big brother to his best friend's little sister. Given the orders--"Keep her out of trouble", by fellow SEAL and best friend Wes Skelly, Bobby Taylor does what any good friend would do...he follows the orders. Colleen Skelly may be Wes' "little" sister, but as Bobby knows all too well.... Wes' "younger" sister will keep him hopping and looking for "HELP" in all the wrong (right?) places. Have I mentioned yet that Bobby is secretly attracted to Colleen (BIG time!!), but trying to do the right thing by his best friend--- who by the way has previously warned Bobby to not even think about his baby sister? Have I mentioned that it's not just one sided--that Colleen also is attracted to Bobby (BIG time!) and that without her brother's presence and watchful eye she's brazen enough to let Bobby know? And for our enjoyment she's not about to be subtle for any length of time. Things are about to change for Bobby. Drastically. Bobby Taylor has his hands full ... there's Colleen leading him into Temptation (and what a merry chase it is! Poor Bobby can't run or hide fast enough--as if he REALLY wants TOO!). He's trying to follow his instincts and Wes' orders by changing Colleen's mind about wanting to fly overseas and rescue orphaned children in a war ridden country. There's the angry locals (mob of angry men) who dislike Colleen's charity work and resent the new neighborhood center being in their community. And let's not forget Bobby's biggest challenge--overcoming Wes' voice whispering (shouting?) in his ear warring with his own desire and Colleen's attempts to move on to more then just friends. It's a real pleasure to watch this couple come to terms with their attraction and let their hidden desires for one another be known. For fans of Suzanne Brockmann's TDD (Tall, Dark, Dangerous) series you'll be happy to know that some old friends and new faces are included in Bobby's story (the tenth in her Silhouette Intimate Moments series). Enjoy! |
