Grade 4-8 As Hall relates her love affair with her Paso Fino gelding Tazo, she also describes her experiences with the injustices of competitions. Her dream-come-true horse meets her requirements: he is small, gentle, four-gaited and golden orange. When Hall learns that politics, not performance, decide the winner in her trail show class, she competes in endurance riding with the same results. It should be noted that Hall's grudges against show judging will disillusion impressionable horse lovers and prejudice them against the system. Numerous black-and-white photos taken by the author's sister have family album appeal, being candid, small, unglamorous and closely tied to the text. However, many lack strong contrast. Horse lovers will await this insight into a popular writer's personal life, which introduces an uncommon horse breed, yet some will not be ready to read about the negative aspects of horse shows. Nice book and fun to read,

Lynn Hall's book about her Paso Fino gelding, Tazo, is a nice book for anyone interested in an introduction to the Paso Fino breed or to horse ownership in general. In the book, she gives an account of her journey through horse ownership and lessons learned. Even though, this book is listed as a juvenile book adults should also find it fun to read. My only criticism of the book is that she rides without a helmet which is not the example we want to set for young riders. Overall, the book is nicely written and I highly recommend it.
