5.0 out of 5 stars Goof collection of Russian music under Stoki's baton, July 25, 2009
This review is from: Tchaikovsky: 1812 Overture, Marche Slave; Mussorgsky: Night on Bare Mountain; Mussorgsky (arr. Stokowski): Symphonic Synthesis from Boris Godunov; Borodin: Polovtsian Dances (Audio CD)
Well, this cd is getting pricy, and I hope my giving five stars to it won't make its price even higher.

I basically bought it for Stokowski's arrangement of Boris Godunov. I heard this many years ago. This is a masterpiece. There are some other performances from Stokowski's arrangement under other conductors, but, no, they can't match his conducting. Stokowski was an expert of Russian music, and I think this CD does justice to him. The only thing missing here is his arrangement of Khovanshchina (available only in a DECCA set). There is also an interesting symphonic arrangement of Boris Gudunov - though shorter - by SHostakovich (conducted by Gergiev). The remastering is pretty good.
