Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

As the title suggests, TCP/IP Blueprints details the TCP/IP protocols, including the basic protocols as well as various common applications. The text contains an excellent discussion and comparison of the differences between the new and old versions of the Internet Protocol (IP). TCP/IP Blueprints also covers network management issues quite well, particularly security configuration and some useful information in the troubleshooting section. As an added bonus, the book's appendix contains an index that maps an application and/or a protocol to the appropriate RFC (Request for Comments) document. This index-mapping feature makes it easy to get standards information so you can find "the last word" on the subject.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book, still relevant., September 22, 2000
This review is from: Tcp/Ip Blueprints (Hardcover)
This book speaks of IPv4, which though the book was written in 1997, has not changed. It also has major sections on IPv6, which was supposed to be in place by now, but unfortunatly has not gained acceptance. So, for all intents and purposes, this book is still 100% true and applicable.

3.0 out of 5 stars Informative, good coverage., October 21, 2000

The book is not very well written (with the exception of Ch.4 on ARP by Martin Bligh). However, the book does cover a lot of different protocols such as SLIP, PPP, DHCP and applications. Good for a quick pickup on any of these topics. Easy reading.
