Book Description

September 8, 1999
Dreams In Motion

He is the American Football Conference's rushing champion, the outstanding player who has made NFL history rushing for 2,000 yards in a single season. He is the league's 1998 Most Valuable Player. Now in this deeply honest book, two-time world champion and record-setting Super Bowl XXXII MVP Terrell Davis recounts the inspiring, fascinating story of his life, a tale of adversity and triumph that makes carrying a football seem easy.

From his Pop Warner days, when he was known as "Boss Hogg" to nearly being overlooked by college scouts; from overcoming migraines to surviving a contentious father; from attending a school whose football program folded after he arrived to a difficult intercollegiate sports career; from his battle from sixth string to starting running back for the Broncos his rookie year to becoming one of the NFL's top--and nicest, most likable--players, TD takes you on a journey into the mind and heart of a superstar. Informative, uplifting, TD shows how Terrell has maintained the edge to succeed others have lost and celebrates his unique relationship with the person he calls "my hero," his mother, a remarkable woman who's been beside him through it all.

TD is an extraordinary story--the memoirs of a champion.

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

In 1996, when Adam Schefter was asked to cowrite Terrell Davis's book, Shefter thought it was a bit premature. After all, Davis had just finished his first year in the NFL. But after Terrell rushed for three touchdowns and 157 yards in the Denver Broncos' Super Bowl XXXII upset victory over the Green Bay Packers, Shefter and Terrell started their work. After spending hundreds of hours with Terrell in an effort to better understand him as a person rather than a player, Shefter wonders why the book wasn't written sooner.

Dreams in Motion certainly captures Davis's gridiron heroics, but more importantly, it focuses on the incredible amount of off-field challenges he's overcome to reach this high level of success. Thanks to his mother's lessons of love, hard work, and high standards, he survives a tough San Diego upbringing, a hard-nosed father, and a football path that derails at almost every level. And despite seemingly less-than-adequate football skills, Davis rises up through the NFL ranks with unwavering resolve, proving the importance of a mother's work. --Ben Tiffany --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

5.0 out of 5 stars Everyone should buy this book and make their kids read it!, September 11, 1999

This review is from: TD : Dreams in Motion (Hardcover)
Buy this book, read it, make your children read it and their children read it. At last a top flight sporting superstar who can truly be called a role model. Terrell's life story makes a great read and shows how hard work, determination and humility can lead a person to accompalish their goals.

The football stuff makes interesting reading, covering Terrell's first season, the loss to Jacksonville and ultimately SuperBowl glory.

It is the 'off-field' stories which really reveal Terrell in his true light- A Man, A hero and a Role model.

This review is from: TD : Dreams in Motion (Hardcover)
In TD Dreames in Motion, Terrell Davis writes and enlightening book about his life. Terrell uses his new fame as star running back of the Dever Broncos and Super Bowl MVP to launch the story of his terbulant life. The chapters about his father, mother, and brothers help the reader understand the driving force behind Terrel Davis. Terrell shows his strong values throughout the book. He has a strong sense of family and a firm beliefe in God. Through his succes, Terrell has been able to help his mother and brothers. He bought his mother a house and helps his family finacially and emotionally. Although much of the book concentrates on family, a great deal of it shows the things that go on in the world of sports. The book follows Terrell from his childhood football team, where he gained the nickname "Boss Hogg," to his productive NFL career. Overall the book is well written and keeps the reader interested. Terrell argues his points well and shows his strength of character in his writing. All people can enjoy this book because of the interesting subject matter and the simplicity of the work. By transfering his experiences in life and in football, Terrell gives the reader a clear perspective on the subjects discussed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great book from one of Denvers all time greats, September 25, 2010
This review is from: Td: Dreams in Motion: The Memoirs of the Denver Broncos' Terrell Davis (Mass Market Paperback)
I liked reading this book. Terrell explained a lot of things through his life and his career. It shows that he has gone through some rough things in his life but remained a humble person that did not allow the success of the NFL get to him. The only thing that baffles me, is how so much this guy could continue to glorify a father that did nothing but abuse him, his mother, and his brothers. I do not see how a man such of his nature should be glorified, when in fact he should be viewed as a lousy father, husband, and influence on his children. His mother raised him to be the man he has become. Not his father. Overall, it was a good read and I would recommend it to anyone.
