Not what I expected,
By A Customer
This review is from: Tea at Glenbrooke: A Quiet Place Where Souls Are Refreshed (Hardcover)
I have read and loved the books in Mrs. Gunn's "Glenbrooke" series, and I was hoping to find illustrations of the homes and gardens in fictional Glenbrooke, Oregon. I was seeking the recipes mentioned, but not provided, in the Glenbrooke books. I thought that the characters would be mentioned, or that their relationships might be elaborated upon...I was sadly disappointed. This is a lovely gift book, filled with brief, warm reflections on the author's own special moments revolving around the tea ritual. The illustrations are colorful and peaceful. The recipes look well-devised and tempting, though, I must admit, I have not tried any. This is a delightful book for people interested in "taking tea" with the author. But, I am sad to say, the relationship this book has to the Glenbrooke series is tangential at best.

This attractive little book is so wonderfully eclectic! It represents the author's idea of what it's like when women come together over a cup of tea. Well, as a fan of tea and tearooms, I can tell you that tea brings this out in all of us!Anyway, this book is a wonderful collection of poems, recipes, and touching musings and anecdotes. All of this is complemented by the charming watercolor illustrations by Susan Mink Colclough. This is a wonderful book, one that you should read outside, on a sunny day, with a cup of Earl Grey in your hand!

Do you long for the porch swing, but don't have the porch? Do you love beautiful gardens, but, like me, are an inept gardner?Do you need just a miniscule time of refreshment? May I recommend Robin Jones Gunn's book, TEA AT GLENBROOKE? This is a lovely book to both have and to give. I gave myself this book as as Christmas present. Now, I plan on giving this book to my friends who need that brief moment of escape into the peaceful world found in this book. The musings, the artwork, and the recipes offer something for all. To those who buy it, may I just say: "Enjoy!"

Tea at Glenbrooke,

My husband and I were on vacation when I found this book in a little cottage style gift shop. I had not read Ms. Gunn's fiction stories, so had no expectations in that aspect when I bought it. It is a beautifully illustrated book with sweet, heartwarming short stories. I have enjoyed this book for at least 5 years and it still brings a smile whenever I spot it on my shelf. I place it right up there with the tea books written by Emilie Barnes.

TEA AT GLENBROOKE is a time of refreshing. Filled with beautifully worded essays, poems, and inspirational quotes, it invites you to take some time to yourself, to reflect on the words and thoughts, enjoy the beautifully illustrated pictures that go along with it.To complete your enjoyment and time of refreshing, there are pages of tea time recipes included. Chicken Salad Sandwiches. Citrus Tea Bread. Scones. And the lists go on. I would love to try some of the recipes included in this book. Also included at the back of the book is a listing of popular teas, with a brief description of each. This part is probably not needed for tea lovers as they are already well versed in tea. But maybe it will give you a craving for a type you haven't had in a while. If you are looking for a truly relaxing way to spend a few minutes, then perhaps TEA AT GLENBROOKE would be a good book to pick up. It will help you find that quiet place where souls are refreshed.

I read "Tea at Glenbrooke" on an airplane and stepped off that plane filled and refreshed. Robin's poetic writing is the perfect gift for your friends or you.
