5.0 out of 5 stars Easy Mesh Tea Infuser
The mesh ball can be used one handed. The spring pressed opens the mesh ball and the tea can be 'spooned up' and the spring released closes the ball. I recommend it for people who need a fast tea, and people who have pain in their hands. It is perfect.

4.0 out of 5 stars Best One I've found, April 7, 2009

I had two of these for the past few years, which worked great but they finally broke and I couldn't find them anywhere. So I tried many different tea-balls/tea infusers, which didn't work as great. Even the tea ball that looks similar to this didn't work as well. I was getting sick and tired of drinking tons of tea leaves. I was beginning to think I was stuck with tea leaves in my tea forever. But then I found these again and bought them. They are really the best thing to use for loose tea. I no longer have tea leaves in my tea, they only need one hand to use it (you fill up only one side of it - don't overfill it, otherwise you'll get tea leaves in your tea. The only downside is that the joint that allows it to open and close will rust and break after a few years.

I was able to use this product exactly twice before it broke. At less than $5, I guess I should not be surprised.

I bought this to make loose leaf tea, and it worked fine for about five uses. But after that it shattered while emptying tea leaves. Not worth the cost. If you only want something disposable, buy this. But after a few uses it's poor quality shows.

Flat areas for a more stable squeeze grip would be useful. Otherwise, works fine. Shipping was more expensive than the item.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!, February 12, 2011
This review is from: Tea Infuser Mesh Spoon - 2" Diameter - Stainless Steel
This is the best tea ball infuser that I've found.

Pros:
1) 1 handed operation. With the others you need to pull on a spring or use two hands to close the ball. With this one, I just scoop it into the tea container and measure up 1/3 or a scoop or whatever amount I use. It has to be very dry though, otherwise it will make the tea leaves in the container wet. Therefore I always have 2 of them; one of the is completely dry while the other one is drying on the wash stand.
2) It's perfect for a single cup. If you want more than 1 cup of tea you'll need to use a tea bag or regular strainer.
3) I have not found this to leak tea leaves unless I try to overstuff the tea ball.
4) Inexpensive.
5) Well built, I've had mine for years. The metal is all browned, but apart from that I have no problems with it. I also keep it very clean. I wash it by itself and I don't put it in greasy sink water or use a sponge that I used to wash greasy dishes. I love it.

Cons:
None.

3.0 out of 5 stars Can be better, November 15, 2010

Bought this item a few months ago because I thought it would alleviate having tea leaves in my tea. The clasp doesn't close tight after a bit of use. So you will still have tea leaves in your tea. They should have made the handle flat or turn it, so that it rests against the inside of the cup with the ball side up. That might alleviate some of the leaves seeping through the open seam.

Not much to say here. Quality is fine and it works fine. I bought two, one for the house, one for the office. No complaints.

1.0 out of 5 stars Too small for loose Chinese tea, October 26, 2010

I bought this tea spoon for brewing premium loose Chinese (oolong) tea, but I found it to be way too small for that use. The mesh infuser barely held enough loose tea (in its dry state) to brew one mug of tea, and the tea leaves did not have the room they needed to unfurl and expand in order to release their flavors into the brew. I ended up with a weak cup of tea, and a waste of good quality tea leaves.

This tea spoon is also smaller than advertised. Mine measures less than 1.5 inches in diameter, not the 2 inches claimed in the item description.

Having experimented with different brewing methods for loose teas, I recommend buying a small personal single-serving teapot. These usually come with a large mesh basket infuser which works much better than the small infusers on tea spoons. However, with mine I don't even bother with the basket infuser, I just put the leaves right into the pot, which gives them maximum room for expansion. With a little care, it is easy to avoid pouring out the leaves into your cup along with the tea, or else the infuser can be used to strain the liquid as you pour it. Using this brewing method, the premium Chinese tea leaves that I buy can be brewed over again up to three or four times with excellent quality tea with each brewing, which is something you could never do with the small infuser typical of most tea spoons.
