Book Description

January 1997
THERE WAS MUCH ADO ABOUT SOMETHING AT WILDERCLIFFE!
Exceedingly wealthy Lord Pargeter had married his housekeeper . . . then expired, leaving the woman an heiress. There was something havey-cavey about the whole business, especially when the woman's niece, Jane Lonsdale, arrived unexpectedly from her teaching position at Miss Prism's Academy.
Across the lake, neighbors at Swann Hall were most interested. Visiting acquaintance Lord Fenwick decided to investigate . . . and was very intrigued by Jane, whose past hinted deliciously of scandal and whose lovely face and lively spirit fascinated him even more.
As devilishly attractive as she found Lord Fenwick, Jane kept frantically busy trying to keep her past a secret and was not gullible enough to succumb to the charms of a man too curious about her for his intentions to be noble!

Editorial Reviews

Review

Dismissed under a cloud of scandal, Jane Lonsdale flees her post as school mistress to seek sanctuary with her aunt Fay, housekeeper at Wildercliffe for Lord Pargeter. To her amazement, Jane discovers her aunt has become wife, then widow to Lord Pargeter in a short amount of time, and will inherit a great estate. Lady Pargeter offers her niece a home and job as companion. Lord Fenwick come to visit his friend Scawen Swann, neighbor to Pargeter, to escape a designing woman of the ton. He is delighted with the mystery of Lord Pargeter's marriage and secret heir and offers to help Lady Sykes, a distasteful connection of the late Lord, to prove foul play. He is also pleasantly surprised when he meets the pretty Jane Lonsdale, not the usual pampered sort of his crowd. Lady Sykes, thinking Jane is the secret heir to Wildercliffe, puts everything at sixes and sevens with her plots. She wants her brother to court Lady Pargeter, her son to court Jane and has plans for herself to marry another neighbor, Lord Malton. Add to that, a kind, bumbling Scawen Swann trying to find a wife, and you have a Regency comedy that offers three love stories in one.Joan Smith has a light, humorous touch in Tea and Scandal that's just right for a wonderful Regency! Tea And Scandal is a Regency at its best--humor, gossip, and characters to love and hate! Tea And Scandal has a touch of mystery and a stroke of humor that makes this Regency a delight to read! Joan Smith has created characters that portray the Regency period in its prime!Denise Hawkins Camp -- Copyright © 1994-97 Literary Times, Inc.
