Experience as a professional chef has taught me many things. One of them is that it is rare to find professional calliber recipes in a book easily available to the general public.
If you are a lover of fine foods this book will supply you with a myriad of useful recipes from Inns that have proven their success by these very foods.I have seen many hundreds of cookbooks very few become my faavorites. When I am looking for a quick delicious recipe to impress company or feed my own hungry mob I invariably find that this book is in my hands. I have not had a recipe failure as yet. A truly rare and exceptional cookbook.(You may wish to buy more than one if you can afford because mine is alas being coveted by friends and beginning to wear out from use)

I collect cookbooks and I love to host afternoon tea parties, so this book was right up my alley. It has probably the most extensive collection of recipes of any tea book I own.
Every recipe I have tried in this has turned out great, scones, mock devonshire cream, whoopie pies (oh my! they are delicious!),mini eclairs, strawberry puffs, chicken salad, cheese spread. I could go on and on, Ive had this book for years and I use it all the time. I not only use it when I have tea but also for finger foods at dinner parties. If you are looking for a book with many different recipes and menus than get this one. The recipes are easy to follow, great tasting and you'll never run out of ideas.

This book gives you a chance to visit numerous inns from
the comfort of your own home. You'll feel like you've had
a chance to have a cup of tea with the innkeeper and cozy
up to the fire. A wonderful read with recipes you'll want
to serve friends at your own tea party.

Tea-Time At The Inn: A Country Inn Cookbook reveals tea-time as practiced in America and offers a culinary wealth of recipes associated with tea time at a variety of quaint and elegant inns across the country. Two hundred recipes ranging Tomato Cheese Squares to Rum Custard Tarts pepper this culinary reference. From a "Gone With The Wind Tea" from Tara; a "After-the-Ski Tea" from the Mad River Inn in Vermont; and a "Low-Fat Herb Tea" from Back of the Beyond in New York; to a "Business Tea" from Bailiwick in Virginia; an "Amish Tea" from The Churchtown Inn in Pennsylvania; and a "Mystery Tea" from Dairy Hollow House in Arkansas; Tea-Time At The Inn is an impressive and unique addition to any tea time enthusiast's cookbook shelf.

This is the type of book you pick up to warm your heart. It's cozy, has wonderful pictures and amazing recipes. I can never get enough of it. Reading about each inn makes me want to be there to experience it. What could be better than tea-time at a country inn?

This book is great. I own several tea books and this is one of my favorites. The recipes I've tried have all been delicious. This book is also a good read and inspirational to invite friends over for tea and good food.

If you are ever invited to an elegant luncheon or tea, this would be an excellent thank you gift. The book is a charming celebration of steeped inn traditions.
The book is filled with a host of tea time varieties such as butler's tea, tea under the canopy, bridal shower teas, high teas, chamber music tea at home, hats off to you tea, English country tea, and Laura Ashley tea, etc. The book offers themed menus with a list of courses and recipes, e.g. teas, sandwiches, cheeses, and desserts, etc. The book provides colorful photos for each occasion and environment, i.e., Inn Victoria, The Captain's House Inn, Maison du Pre'(SC), and The Vermont Marble Inn, etc. For each theme, the book provides a textbox filled with dandy ideas. For example, "Act as butler by wearing black tails or a long dress, or anything you want to, allow just a pair of white gloves to reflect the fact that you are at your guests' beck and call--delightful and witty (Greco, 1991)." The recipes are absolutely enchanting, e.g., smoked oyster cheese roll, Huguenot torte, benne (sesame) seed wafers, villiage scones, and much more.

This book has some very good recipes for afternoon tea with a few friends, or doing a tea for a crowd. The "Mock Devonshire Cream" on pg 65 is outstanding!
