Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

Teac's Reference series of surround sound and stereo components is based on a simple premise: bigger isn't always better. Measuring just over 10 inches wide rather than the traditional 17 inches, the sleek Legacy AG-L800 is a great choice for people with narrow entertainment cabinets or shelves, especially when combined with other Teac Legacy components. And with 250 watts of output power (50 watts x 2) and a raft of valuable features, the AG-L800 excels in a more important realm as well--audio performance.

The receiver is equipped with Dolby Digital, DTS, and Dolby Pro Logic II surround decoders, ensuring that most DVD films will sound rich and explosive through your front, center, and rear speakers, especially if a subwoofer is added through the pre-out. Adding to the receiver's versatility is a digital AM/FM tuner with 60 station presets (30 FM and 30 AM). Thanks to the presets, listeners can easily locate their favorite station, or they can quickly surf through the entire spectrum. It's also simple to determine which source, station, or volume level you're employing via the half-mirror fluorescent display, which comes with a dimmer for nighttime applications. Other features include a 90-minute sleep timer and a touch-screen universal remote that connects to your PC's USB port for software updates and component programming.

Listeners can connect the receiver to source components through the four S-video inputs and two outputs, four composite video inputs and two outputs, and four audio inputs and two outputs. For higher-end audio results, listeners should use the three digital audio inputs (two optical and one coaxial) and two outputs (one optical and one coaxial)--perfect for connecting to DVD players, satellite systems, and game consoles. Listeners will also delight in the five-way binding posts, which ensure a high-quality speaker connection with little opportunity for corrosion or signal degradation.

The AG-L800 measures 10.8 by 4.37 by 13.03 (W x H x D) inches and weighs 8.38 pounds.

This review is from: Teac Reference AG-L800 5.1-Channel A/V Surround Sound Receiver (Silver) (Electronics)
No actual beef with the receiver other then the description did not mention that the receiver requires a powered subwoofer. I guess I should have assumed this, but it would have been nice to know.

Sound quality is great.
Features are everything you would expect: You are able to adjust the output of each speaker and the sound delay of each speaker.

The radio tuner works well.

The remote is fairly easy to use, once you play with it for a bit. I became frustrated with it at one point because there are so many options listed, but you press one, and it says error. Don't give up! Once you realize what everything means, it will be pretty easy to use. The remote lights up, so when watching a movie in the dark, you can see the options.

There are video inputs/outputs, in case you would like to run your video through the receiver. Personally, I don't use this feature, but it's there.

The receiver is nice and fairly easy to use. For the amount you spend on the receiver, it has all the basics. It is nothing spectacular, but is great for the size of it and the cost.
