Book Description

June 1990 0962664308 978-0962664304
"The alarm has sounded, the clock is ticking, but most of us are asleep," warns a national TV documentary of American education. False educational ideas are rampant and the unfortunate victims are often young children. What should be done about it? This book is a wake-up call. It contains a bedrock solution for today's educational dilemmas. Its message is based on eternal principles and God-given free agency - solid hope for parents, teachers, and leaders. Our youth can transcend the turmoil of a society that is rapidly rejecting its most basic values. The family's spiritual fiber can be renewed.

5.0 out of 5 stars moral eduation in modern society, January 29, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Teach the Children: An Agency Approach to Education (Hardcover)
This book is written for parents, teachers, and students who are striving for a complete education experience in today's society. It emphasizes the importance of moral education and stresses that this can only be attained when what is being taught and the methods used to teach it are based on eternal religious principles. These include the belief that people have both a body and a spirit and that we each have a personal mission in life. This book teaches how to build upon these basic principles in any setting to maximize the value and power of education. It turns education into a means and not just an end. This book is written from the viewpoint of a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, but I believe that it would be helpful to members of any religion who wish to remain true to their beliefs in their teaching without compartmentalizing their values. The book relies on scripture references, history, and the life of the Savior formulate the principles and practical applications it presents, and then it contrasts them with present educational theories and practices. This is a well-researched and carefully thought-out book. It is an important and valuable resource for any teaching situation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Homeschooling Resource, August 22, 2010
This review is from: Teach the Children: An Agency Approach to Education (Hardcover)
I read this book in 1990, just prior to beginning home school. It gave me a broad understanding of my goals and purposes as a teacher and parent. When the day-to-day work of homeschooling became a bit overwhelming, I had this great resource to get re-centered and focused on the priorities and long-term goals of preparing our children to make their place in the world. When my copy went missing, I was pleased to find it available on Amazon. I recommend it to all parents, teachers and anyone who works with youth. It is inspiring.
