5.0 out of 5 stars Biblically parenting finally explained!

christ would never treat a child the way priolo insists God demands we treat our children. a better book on child training is heartfelt discipline by clay clarkson or grace based discipline by tim kimmel. practice the fruit of the spirit towards your children and you won't need to beat them into submission as priolo suggests.

5.0 out of 5 stars Biblically parenting finally explained!, March 11, 2003
This review is from: Teach Them Diligently: How to Use the Scriptures in Child Training (Paperback)
This book answered so many questions for me. Having read "Shepherding a Child's Heart", I understood the concept of how to parent biblically by looking at heart issues instead of behavior and using scripture to do so, but I didn't know what scriptures to use or exactly how to implement this plan. "Teach Them Diligently" gives the detailed explanation, along with categorized scriptures of how to convict, rebuke, teach, and train your children with God's Word. A must-have for any parent who desires to bring up children to be spiritually equipped to handle life. It makes your life a whole lot easier. My 4 year-old son already has four such scriptures hidden in his heart only two weeks after my husband and I implemented these parenting principles. Thanks Lou!

5.0 out of 5 stars WONDERFUL!, April 5, 2008
This review is from: Teach Them Diligently: How to Use the Scriptures in Child Training (Paperback)
How refreshing to see a parenting book written by someone who clearly loves the Lord and wants to honor Him! This book has been a valuable resource to my family as we seek to raise not just good children, but godly children! So disappoiting to read negative reviews from people who, in my opinion, did not read the entire book. Proverbs 14:12 tells us "There is a way which seems right to a man, but it's end is the way of death." I am sure the author was aware that the chapter on spanking would be controversial. Thank you for fearing God more than man! "He who withholds his rod hates his son, But he who loves him disciplines him diligently." Proverbs 13:24 So nice to see Lou Priolo walking in the truth and teaching us to do the same..especially when it comes to our precious children.

5.0 out of 5 stars Required Reading for Christian Parents, October 3, 2002
This review is from: Teach Them Diligently: How to Use the Scriptures in Child Training (Paperback)
Priolo is AMAZING! he does what no other author I know has been able to do! .Take the Bible and make it real in a way that transcends the bounds of its paper medium. I started by reading the Heart of Anger and then bought The Complete Husband (Both excellent books). Teaching them Diligently is THE how to guide for biblical parenting. It is cover to cover practical step by step advice on how to use scripture to raise your children the way God meant for them to be raised. The topical appendix in the back is simply priceless. This book has helped me with scripture memorization because it has encouraged and empowered me to access and apply scripture like never before. If you are a Christian Parent - or simply a parent who cares about raising children with character and integrity - your next click should be add to cart!!! ENJOY!

5.0 out of 5 stars MVP of the Christian Child rearing genre!, April 7, 2008
This review is from: Teach Them Diligently: How to Use the Scriptures in Child Training (Paperback)
This book is excellent! I love it because it works! My Children know that I love them enough to train them in the righteousness of God. My favorite part is the quick reference guide of verses that address specific negative behaviors that is located in the back of the book. I have also read Lou's book entitled 'The Heart of Anger'. They are both full of Love and Wisdom!

5.0 out of 5 stars Thanks Mr. Priolo, April 5, 2008
This review is from: Teach Them Diligently: How to Use the Scriptures in Child Training (Paperback)
Thanks to P L Priolo for his in depth study of the scriptures and what God says about parenting. I was not brought up in a Christian home and was fearful of parenting "wrong". "Teach Them Diligently" has shown me that God has a lot to say about parenting. As our Creator and heavenly Father shouldn't He be the one to tell us how to do it right? I know I'll mess up and do a lot of it wrong, but Mr. Priolo even points me to how God tells us to humbly go to our children and ask for forgiveness. This was unheard of in my house growing up. Thanks for your insight. Keep writing.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Definite Read for All "Christian" Parents, April 5, 2008

I must say that I am quite saddened at the reviews of this book. I found this the BEST of all books I have read on the subject. Finally someone explains the reason and the way. Not just advice but practical hands on tools. And for those of you who are turned off by it then you may need to reread some of the scripture yourself. Remember we are all sinners.. We are born sinners (Augustine) and it is only by the mercy and grace of Christ that we forgiven. Just as the Father loves us and cannot look upon our sin, he must punish sin so too must we as parents. Love is justice. How can one claim to love their child and then not correct them. The two do not go together. I absolutely loved loved loved this book! We have spread the word and many in our church are now reading it. Thanks Lou! We parents needed that.

For Pete's sake people - get real!! This book in NO way advocates violence against children and you know it!! It's about the PROPER, BIBLICAL use of spanking to drive the foolishness from a child's heart! READ IT before you make stupid comments like this! It puts a great emphasis on the parents' responsibility NOT to spank in anger, but spank in love. Don't be so blinded by your anti-spanking motives that you totally miss the entire point! No parent using this book's approach could ever be accused of anything close to abuse. Sadism? good grief!!!!!! You obviously are coming at this issue with a MAJOR left wing bias!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great biblical parenting book, July 23, 2003

This book is a great tool for learning to share the scriptures with your child while you are disciplining them! I have also read Shepherding a Child's Heart, and although I love it, this book (teaching them Diligently) shows you how- practically. The appendix in the back is great for when you don't know the exact Scripture you need when lovingly correcting your child. I would also recommend the doorposts charts ... in addition to this book. They are charts that have the childs behavior/condition and appropriate Scripture. You can place the laminated charts in whatever room you discipline so that you can show your child what he/she is doing wrong.

4.0 out of 5 stars spanking done correctly is not child abuse, April 5, 2008
By
This review is from: Teach Them Diligently: How to Use the Scriptures in Child Training (Paperback)
This is a great resource for Christian Parents. Those who call Lou's method's child abuse either have not read the book or are not implementing spanking correctly. Spanking done in love to correct and teach a child has nothing to do with the anger and violence of child abuse. Read the book, pray about it, then decide.

5.0 out of 5 stars Biblically sound teaching, not sadism!, April 5, 2008
This review is from: Teach Them Diligently: How to Use the Scriptures in Child Training (Paperback)
Biblical spanking as described by Mr. Priolo is done without anger, in a controlled manner, and is preceded and followed by many words of loving instruction. The use of the term "sadism" to describe this process is wildly inappropriate. Unfortunately, those who do so apparently cannot conceive of the possibility that a parent might be able to carry out this process without losing control and crossing the line toward abuse. Perhaps this says far more about the critics who toss this term around than it does about Mr. Priolo and those who have benefitted greatly from his Biblically sound teaching.
