I liked the layout of this book far better then most of the top rated books. It has a good blend of baby sign language background and easy to follow, commonly used signs. The book is also good as a quick reference if you forget the exact way to do a sign. Overall, a great guide for first time parents looking for relevent material that your baby can use. The only thing that would make this book even better is if it were spiral bound, so it could be layed flat for easier viewing for parents and their babies.

I am a speech-language pathologist and am asked all the time, "Wont signing get in the way of my little one learning to talk?" NO--EMPHATICALLY NO! In fact, adding in sign PROMOTES spoken language! There are too many articles to cite here to back me up, but suffice it to say that when your baby points to milk and says, "mamama," she is already using gestures/signs--they come first before spoken language! All that said, I got this book for my brother and his wife--two CPA's with their first--because it is incredibly user friendly and gives real-world pointers for how to make the signs and in what contexts. It draws directly from American Sign Language, so in all seriousness, if your little one grows up to befriend someone who uses ASL, they will (on a very basic level) be able to "talk" with them! Honestly, a great resource for parents who are looking to make their first year or two with their baby smooth. Wouldn't it be great if you knew what your 7-month old was screaming about?? If he knows the sign for it, I promise you, he will tell you what he wants :) Enjoy!!

Great book,
This review is from: Teach Your Baby to Sign: An Illustrated Guide to Simple Sign Language for Babies (Paperback)
This book is great. I was looking for something with easy to understand signs and easy to find in the book!
My husband and I already have the basics down and have started introducing them to our child. The signs are easy and large so I can print them and take them to daycare so they know what she wants as well. I searched all over for books and this is by far the best I have found.

This is an absolutely wonderful book! Exactly what I was looking for. It has a lot of pictures and instructions on how to do each sign. I have three kids and I don't have the time to just sit down to read. It's so great with this book to be able to just look up the word, view the picture and/or instructions, and I'm done.

I bought this book so that I can start to communicate with my baby before she learns to talk. I've had several friends who have taught their kids sign language successfully, but many years ago. When I started flipping through this book I was so impressed! The pictures, tips, descriptions and FAQ section are put together so well, and it's organized in easy to find sections.

Makes Learning Signs Easy!,
This review is from: Teach Your Baby to Sign: An Illustrated Guide to Simple Sign Language for Babies (Paperback)
The reviews and the fact that the author used ASL helped me decide to buy this book, and I'm glad I did!
In addition to a good variety of words, the drawings are simple to increase clarity, it includes some images of babies using the signs (which can help you spot your child doing them), and tips for remembering each sign. This is a book for baby sign language, so although it pulls its words and basic phrases from ASL, it's not going to make either of you conversant in the language. It's designed for basic communication between adults and pre-verbal children, and it's great at what it does. There are a couple of words that I think would have been useful to include but aren't in there, such as a generic word for food, but the plethora of information and signs makes up for anything that's missing. It's a great place to start signing with baby.

Overall, I am happy with this book. I am a 1st time Mom learning to sign with my baby. Most of the sign pictures are easy to understand, although there's a few that are hard to figure out. The book is divided into sections such as: eating, animals, routine needs, people, etc. I have come across a word or two that isn't in the book, but overall great info! My DD is 4 months old and we are using milk, change and bath. She can't sign yet, but she's practicing milk a lot!!!

The Perfect Signing Book,
This review is from: Teach Your Baby to Sign: An Illustrated Guide to Simple Sign Language for Babies (Paperback)
I have seen a lot of books on sign language and this one is by far the best! The pictures are very easy to understand, and the list of signs corresponds to the words you need most in communication with your baby. I would highly recommend it!

I was looking more for a book that taught you how to start teaching your baby sign language. This is more of a book that just teaches what signs are. There isnt a sign in there for a "bottle" either. I was looking for more ideas on where to start and what signs to start with. I think maybe the book is for older children.

This is an excellent book with great pictures and ways to use various signs in every day life. Our granddaughter is 17 months and already combining signs to create a sentence. We got this book because our first book was too elementary and she was sometimes frustrated. There are lots of words in the book that you would use with a toddler. Wish we would have had this when our daughter was a toddler. It would have saved us a lot of frustration!
