2.0 out of 5 stars Teach Your Child the Multiplication Tables
I give this book 2 stars because it contains no answer sheets. If you need answers you must spend another $18 to purchase the teacher's book. That may be fine if you are teaching 30 children but for us who home school it is an unnessary expence.

Many children struggle learning and recalling multiplication facts, and need other techniques rather than rote memorization to master these skills. Eugenia Francis' workbook utilizes wonderful, brain-compatible strategies and methods to do so - such as learning to recognize and attend to patterns for the multiplication tables, using memory tricks/mnemonics, and other engaging and fun techniques. I recommend Teach Your Child the Multiplication Tables as a helpful resource for children to learn the math facts and understand the principles of multiplication.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for homeschoolers, December 15, 2006
This review is from: Teach Your Child the Multiplication Tables: Fast, Fun & Easy with Dazzling Patterns, Grids & Tricks! (Paperback)
My 4th grader was really struggling with retaining the multiplication facts until he started using this book. I saw a big difference right away in his ability to remember. The only suggestion I would make is to have your child say the entire equation out loud while also writing down the answers, because sometimes the patterns come to the forefront, and I found that my child did not always connect the pattern back to multiplication facts themselves. So, for the fives, for example, instead of just having my son write down 5, 10, 15, 20, etc., I would have him say "5 times 1 is 5, 5 times 2 is 10, 5 times 3 is 15, 5 times 4 is 20," etc. as he was writing them down. It made a huge difference in retention. Overall, this is a great product, especially for homeschoolers who are looking to make learning the times tables fun. Highly recommended.

This review is from: Teach Your Child the Multiplication Tables: Fast, Fun & Easy with Dazzling Patterns, Grids & Tricks! (Paperback)
The book excels at bringing the fun back to mathematics. Rather than laboring the standard learning techniques for the multiplication tables, the author focuses on innovative grid patterns. The learning process is less about memorization and more about discovery. This book should be praised for its great success in making learning fun again. Your child might even think he/she is playing a game instead of practicing math! Highly recommended....

Eugenia Francis has created an easy, entertaining way of teaching the multiplication tables. My nieces and nephews loved the circus motif and coloring the animals as they completed each page. With all the tricks, patterns and games, Teach Your Child the Multiplication Tables is a delight! Who knew there were patterns and tricks to the multiplication tables instead of endless hours of boring rote memorization I had as a child? Finally, learning the times tables is truly fast, fun and easy.

5.0 out of 5 stars a top pick!, October 5, 2006
This review is from: Teach Your Child the Multiplication Tables: Fast, Fun & Easy with Dazzling Patterns, Grids & Tricks! (Paperback)
"Teach Your Child the Multiplication Tables" is one of my top picks for 3rd graders at www.math-mom.com

This workbook is a wonderfully entertaining, clear, and memorable way to understand multiplication and to learn the times tables! Younger students will also benefit from this book; cute characters and cartoon creatures appear on each page. As soon as the book arrived, my 5 year old daughter was eager to work on it. Pattern after pattern in the 10 by 10 multiplication grid are highlighted, making multiplication easy to understand and facts easy to remember. This book includes review problems and concludes with a mixture of the facts to be mastered.

The essence of mathematics is patterns. Teach Your Child the Multiplication Tables doesn't merely present the patterns underlying the multiplication tables, it enables children to experience the joy of discovering mathematical patterns at an early age. By enjoying the learning process and developing an intuitive grasp of basic multiplication processes, they learn it faster and retain it longer, thus forming a firmer basis for more complex concepts in the higher grades. Highly recommended for both parents and teachers.

This review is from: Teach Your Child the Multiplication Tables: Fast, Fun & Easy with Dazzling Patterns, Grids & Tricks! (Paperback)
This book is great! My daughter, who is 10, has always had problems with math. She is in 5th grade and is clearly struggling. The author shows these little tricks and strategies that make math very easy and less intimidating to a child thinks it's too hard. The pictures make it fun as well. I would definitely recommend it as a tool to help make math more fun and less work.
