Theory book only - don't try to put it to use,
By A Customer
This review is from: Sams Teach Yourself Active Web Database Programming in 21 Days (Paperback)
The book is probably terrific for managers who simply want to 'read' about the technology. Don't try to put the examples to use though; you'll be quite frustrated.I found that this book did NOT NEARLY meet the qualities that I have found in other Teach Yourself series books. Teach Yourself Visual Basic 5 in 21 days and Teach Yourself Visual Basic for Applications in 21 days were 100% better than this book. Poorly written, not tested, not worth the money.

Awesome web technologies destroyed by non-working examples,
By maihyvu@yahoo.com (Trabuco Canyon, California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sams Teach Yourself Active Web Database Programming in 21 Days (Paperback)
This book covers awesome web technologies; however, non-working created a lot of frustrations on my part and makes me wonder about the validity of the entire book altogether. To the authors, try to test run your examples before releasing the book and its cd.

Out of date,
This review is from: Sams Teach Yourself Active Web Database Programming in 21 Days (Paperback)
This is a grate book, except for the fact that most of the examples do not work (even from the provided cd), and some of the controls referred to are out of date and some, no longer supported. The first half of the book is ok to get you familiarized with ASP and web based data access.

Just as the teach yourself 21 days series, this book is also full of syntax errors. I wish I could get a refund. Surprise, most of the examples in this book simply doesn't work.I won't buy any teach yourself series again. It just waste my money

By A Customer
This review is from: Sams Teach Yourself Active Web Database Programming in 21 Days (Paperback)
Very interesting book with lots of information. I had a very frustrating time with the examples that did not work. I ended up not really using the CD at all and just stuck to reading through the examples in the book.

Good for users with VB knowledge,
By A Customer
This review is from: Sams Teach Yourself Active Web Database Programming in 21 Days (Paperback)
This book is good for reader with basic knowledge on VB. The most usefule part is the first two weeks' chapters. From which, you can build a good and simple database/interactive web applications. The last week's chapters required deeper VB knowledge and don't provide the same details as previous two weeks. Anyway, it's a good choice for Windows based developer (especially beginner) to develop web database application.

Some examples don't work but good coverage of ADO & ADC,
By A Customer
This review is from: Sams Teach Yourself Active Web Database Programming in 21 Days (Paperback)
This book had good coverage of ADO and to a certain extent ADC. For the first 5 chapters a lot of the examples didn't work which is frustrating because you expect examples on a CD to have at least been tried before being included. All of these could be made to work by changing the code around a bit. You would think as the book was part written by a Microsoft person that they would know what they were doing! All I can say is if you do buy this book don't think it's something your doing wrong when these examples don't work - Hopefully this will be corrected in future editions.

Good reference manual...that's it,
By A Customer
This review is from: Sams Teach Yourself Active Web Database Programming in 21 Days (Paperback)
This book gives good background information on all the subjects in covers. I wasn't too impressed with the "working" examples (some didn't even work) however as a reference manual it will serve well for someone wanting to learn concepts of ADO, ADC, ASP, and OLE DB.

Would be better if the examples all worked,
By A Customer
This review is from: Sams Teach Yourself Active Web Database Programming in 21 Days (Paperback)
Not a bad attempt to teach a quite complex subject over a relatively short time. It is infuriating however that some of the examples do not work i.e In chapter 5 the script was put in the wrong place on some of the examples causing an error to occur. I can understand printing mistakes, but surely the examples should have been fully tested beforehand.

Ok reference, bad organizaton, non practical examples,
By A Customer
This review is from: Sams Teach Yourself Active Web Database Programming in 21 Days (Paperback)
I expected this book to show more real world examples, not just cool non-practical ways to make your code work on generic applications. Get "Professional Active server pages" as a better detailed reference book. I got so mad after spending money on this book that I wanted to just throw it out my 7th floor window.
