Editorial Reviews

From the Author

Adobe GoLive 5 is the biggest and best release of the software ever and we wanted to write a comprehensive book for beginner and intermediate users so they could start building web sites quickly. The book is more than 450 pages long and covers topics such as web page layout, site management, graphic usage, forms, DHTML, source code editing, site mapping, Flash and QuickTime integration, and uploading and search engine promotion.

All three co-authors have been using GoLive for many years, are Adobe Certified Experts, and have several years of experience training users how to make the most of GoLive.

From the Back Cover

Sams Teach Yourself Adobe GoLive 5 in 24 Hours follows the structure of 24 one-hour lessons in order to make the content manageable. The author provides snippets of HTML code and Web site addresses that complement the material. Other features included in the book are undocumented features and shortcuts, related Web site links, and snippets of HTML code for special tricks and layouts.

I knew absolutely nothing about designing a web site. For two days I tore my hair out attempting to understand the GoLive manual. The best thing I did was purchase this book. In about 4 hours I was easily designing my own website, adding animation, images, links and text. This book is perfect for the beginner. It's starts simply and builds from there. I can't recommend this highly enough for a beginner who is daunted by the task of learning GoLive and building a decent website.

GoLive in 24 is very well structured. It is one of the best detailed "24 hour" books I have read. It also has a great support website with resource files. GoLive is not an easy program to "pick-up" and this book really gets you going on the right track. It covers both basic and powerful techniques.

i have zero web exprerience but wanted a website. my friend was supposed to help but didn't so i got this book and "the adobe golive 5.0 visual quickstart guide" (see my other review). both books enabled me to overcome my fear of the web and get my site done in record time. although i rated both books 5 stars i'd have to say this is the best for the absolute beginner. its very well written and its tone makes the sometimes daunting task of web design fun. if i had to pick one book for a beginner it would be this one. you can see the proof at...if you don't believe me. the site successfully launched today and i owe my thanks to this book. you can actually do quite a lot in golive. if you want a page with just some text and basic links this book will have you up and running in day or two. my site was a bit more involved but only took about a week after finishing the content. this book sells at a great price for all you'll learn. you can even access a website by the authors for tutorials with downloadable images and stuff. believe the title and get it.

I found this book immensely helpful since I was switching from Frontpage to GoLive. GoLive is definitely "industrial strength" and the paradigm of this program is significantly different from Frontpage. This book really helped me understand the logic of the GoLive program. There is a reason for all the pallettes, toolbars and the way the program is laid out. This book really facilitated a painless process in understanding the program...which is absolutely essential in order to take advantage of all the great features of GoLive. The explanation of metatags and how they are used in search engines is very helpful and everything you need to know to easily build them into your site is explained in the book. I definitely recommend Sams Teach Yourself Adobe GoLive 5 for beginners to intermediate professionals...I would consider myself an intermediate website builder.

Out of three other books I own for GoLive, this one was the best. If you are a beginner with GoLive, this book is a must have.
