5.0 out of 5 stars Concise, Simple, Interesting, and Effective, August 16, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Teach Yourself Comedy Writing (Teach Yourself (McGraw-Hill)) (Paperback)
This book was concise, simple, and effective. Roche did not bore you to death by focusing on the theoretical. She concentrated on the practical, just like she said she would. I found it more helpful than the other books that I read. I would recomend this book to a friend.

1.0 out of 5 stars where's the comedy?, March 7, 2011
By
This review is from: Teach Yourself Comedy Writing (Teach Yourself (McGraw-Hill)) (Paperback)
The one interesting thing about this book is that the author is British, so I learned a little bit about the differences between the US and UK markets. Unfortunately, I didn't learn anything about how to write comedy. Really, it's more of a "Basics of the Comedy Business in the UK." So if you want to know how to format your manuscript for different markets (radio, TV, etc.), you may find this book helpful. Anything else, not so much. Besides being unhelpful, it's boring. She spends a whole chapter lecturing the reader on not being offensive. Now, I prefer my comedy on the gentle side, but that does not inspire confidence in her comedic abilities.
