I got to know this sieres of books because of a friend of mine who bought the book for teach yourself russian. Being a native speaker of russian, I was surprised by how quickly my friend learned to speak, my only complaint being that the recording taught the students to speak too slowly for a native ear. I have studied German for 2 years at the university, and bought this book at the beginning of the summer to get ready for another year of advanced german, and I found the book and the recording very good. I found myself thinking more in German and being able to say things in a more sophisticated way than before. Unlike what I found in russian, the improve your german recordings spoke at converstion speed, and I soon became even more confident with listening and taking complete dictation on what was being said. Ein sehr gutes Buch!

I am an advanced beginner, and I thhink this book is very good. I learned a lot, and I highly recommend this book to intermediate&+ learners.

I'm not sure how well you can learn to speak German from JUST this set, but it's great for listening in the car and reviewing language points for 1/2 hour a day or so. I used this in conjunction with taking classes, and I think it's a pretty decent learning tool.

LIKE ALL TEACH YOURSELF BOOKS, THIS IS A GREAT BOOK, JUST LIKE GERMAN EXTRA, BUT NEWER, JUST MAKE SURE TO BUY IT WITH THE CD'S, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT.
