This book assumes you have a computer running Windows 95/98 and that you're reasonably adept at using it--you know how to use the mouse, start programs, manipulate windows, and the like. It also assumes you just want to get on the Internet to surf the Web and use electronic mail--you have no immediate interest in publishing your own pages on the Web or anything more complicated like that.
Snell begins with a discussion of the essential hardware you need to connect to the Internet. He also provides a summary of the various types of Internet service providers (ISPs) available in the United States. He shows you how to get connected to an ISP and then explains how to use your browser--including its abilities to mark sites you like and help you find information you want. Later chapters explain how to configure and use an e-mail program. Snell gives fair coverage to both Netscape Communicator 4.6 and the Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 suite. --David Wall --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.
Sams Teach Yourself the Internet in 24 Hours, 2002 Edition steps the reader through everything he or she needs to know in order to quickly get connected to the Internet, send and receive e-mail, find and browse Web sites, read and post to newsgroups, and apply the Internet to their everyday office and home life.
Written in a straightforward, easy-to-understand style, the book avoids confusing jargon at all costs, clearly telling the reader just what they need to know in order to become productive. --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

Excellent. As advetised.,

This review is from: Teach Yourself the Internet in 24 Hours (Sams Teach Yourself...) (Paperback)
The book is ideal for newbies who are learning the Internet which is just what the title implies it is. The "hour" vs the traditional chapter is unusual, but the content is appropriate for the newcomer. I reviewed several books before selecting this as the required book for my extension classes on "Internet Fundamentals." My students have found it readable, understandable, comprehensive and reasonably priced. A good choice.

A jack of all trends.,
This review is from: Teach Yourself the Internet in 24 Hours (Paperback)
For having a basic and shallow understanding about "What the heck is Internet programming?" in general, it might just serve that purpose. But you must ask yourself whether it is what you want... This book will not make you an ActiveX guru, nor an ASP genius, nor a DHTML wiz... but it'll explain what each of them is and how it works in VB6 with some useless examples (that DOES work, for a change with Sams). If you must, have it.
