The book is a great study guide for the IIS exam. Fourteen days really means 14 chapters, and it can be covered in three days in a cram session. There is some unnecessary stuff in there, devoting a whole chapter to NNTP and Scripting, which don't have too many questions on the exam. Still, it has excellent labs and can serve as a resource after passing the test. I passed with an 811. Don't waste your money on the expensive MS official curriculum. Make sure you have some practice tests like transcenders or CNE Quizzer, and make sure to use MMC.

I took and failed the 70-087 today. I saw questions on confiquring Index Server on a 95 computer, and questions regarding the cause of ODBC errors. None of these subjects were dealt with in this book, as well other subjects tested on the exam. Thorough study of this book will get you at the pass/fail threshold for the test. You will need real hands on experience, many labs to practice the confiquration utilities, or many hours of reading other sources which I can't recommend right now. I also did not find the Trancenders particularly helpful.

This book go through most of the objects list in the Preparation Guide for Exam 70-087. I bought this book along with EXAM CRAM's IIS4 and found out that "Teach Yourself IIS 4 in 14 Days" provide lots of important info for the test which are not covered in the EXAM CRAM. Compare both books before you buy.

After studying this book I took the test only to find out I was not prepared for the test at all. Most of the material on the test was not covered in the book. The Sams IIS 4.0 is a good introduction book but only that.

This book is fair as far as IIS goes and yes I agree you can't learn IIS in 14 days. This book is dry and doesn't cover ODBC errors. I bought MCSE Test Success by Lisa McDonald and it blows this book away.The only good thing I can say about this book it that the MMC exercises are good but otherwise look elsewhere this book has WAY to much fluff.

For being a test prep book for a specific Microsoft exam this book does a poor job of targeting its audience. The information is generally valid but it is presented haphazardly and inconsistently. This book is a prime example of all the pitfalls of having six people author one book.

This book does cover much of the vital info for learning IIS4 but it is also very dry reading and somewhat redundant. You can read it through and do all the exercises in 5 - 7 days or a long weekend (full time study) but you will eventually want to go somewhere else for a different perspective and more info. Not bad, not particularly good - if you find a great one let people know. I am still looking.

After reading Sams Teach Yourself TCP/IP In 14 Days and passing the exam easily, I had to try this book for the IIS 4 exam. I'm glad I did. Read this book in front of your PC and go through the exercises. This exam has quite a few simulations with Microsoft Management Console, and you'll need to be familar with MMC. I passed the IIS 4 exam with an 854 (MCSE!), and alot of credit should go to this book. I also suggest downloading some free prep exams to be prepared for the types of questions you will be asked. The only problem I had with this book is the glossary doesn't exist, but still gave it 5 stars. Good luck.

This book does a good job of teaching the material. It also inlcudes exercises to try on IIS4 server, for hands on experimenting.

The only complaint I have about this book is that there are way too many places where it briefly describes something, then immidiately says "See Chapter XX for a further explanation". So you are left flipping through the book if you actually do go see other chapters for further info as they suggest throughout the book. It would be better to just trust that the reader will eventually get to reading the chapter neeeded for 'further info' without actually printing it in the book.

Other than that, the material is error-free and accurate. A good study guide for IIS4. However, as with any study guide, I would supplement this book with another study guide or a condensed exam notes to ensure that all concepts are grasped properly.

If you have basic idea how IIS 4 works, this book along with your hands-on experience is good enough to pass the IIS 4 test.
