5.0 out of 5 stars Great for one who knows not!!, May 9, 2001

I wanted a great web-page program for designing my own web -site which is small and mostly family oriented. I decided to give Dreamweaver a shot but wanted to learn it right. This book really walked me through the basics of the program and gave me hands on lessons that enabled me to try things as I read the book. Organized into one-hour sessions, some I was able to pick up in shorter time. A lot of the advanced features I probably won't use, but the information in this book still made me aware of it and how to use it. This Dreamweaver is really great and enables you to do just about anything you want to with your web page. Highly recommend this book if you have Dreamweaver 4!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for beginners only, March 11, 2001

This review is from: Sams Teach Yourself Macromedia Dreamweaver 4 in 24 Hours (Paperback)
I'm an professional web designer, and I found this book to be pretty thin. To be fair, beginners are probably the target market for this book. The CSS discussion lacks depth, for example. If you don't know the quirks of browser version display when using CSS, this book might help you create some unexpectedly ugly pages in old browsers.

Right now it's about the only book available on DW4, but more advanced books will be out this spring. If you are new to web WSIWYG editors, or are switching from another editor, this book WILL help you get started using Dreamweaver.

5.0 out of 5 stars A perfect introduction to Dreamweaver, February 28, 2001

This review is from: Sams Teach Yourself Macromedia Dreamweaver 4 in 24 Hours (Paperback)
This book is the perfect complement to an excellent program! Dreamweaver is an enormously deep and well-conceived program, but you may not know it from reading the tutorials that come with the software. In a clear, flowing narrative, the author leads you through all the major functions of Dreamweaver, while giving hints along the way to avoid common pitfals of naive web developers. As a software developer, I don't find the book over-simplified, but instead find it an empowering tutorial guide to the full capabilities of the the software and common web technologies such as Javascript.
