2.0 out of 5 stars Sams Teach Yourself DW4 in 24 hours
Being a newbie to DW4, I knew that to get up and running that the DW4 manual would be insuffient. "Sams Teach Yourself Macromeda Dreamweaver 4" was about the only book available at the time to get me over those initial speed bumps of DW4's moderate learning curve.

The biggest problem with the book is the assumption that you know where all of the menu items...

I wanted a great web-page program for designing my own web -site which is small and mostly family oriented. I decided to give Dreamweaver a shot but wanted to learn it right. This book really walked me through the basics of the program and gave me hands on lessons that enabled me to try things as I read the book. Organized into one-hour sessions, some I was able to pick up in shorter time. A lot of the advanced features I probably won't use, but the information in this book still made me aware of it and how to use it. This Dreamweaver is really great and enables you to do just about anything you want to with your web page. Highly recommend this book if you have Dreamweaver 4!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for beginners only, March 11, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Sams Teach Yourself Macromedia Dreamweaver 4 in 24 Hours (Paperback)
I'm an professional web designer, and I found this book to be pretty thin. To be fair, beginners are probably the target market for this book. The CSS discussion lacks depth, for example. If you don't know the quirks of browser version display when using CSS, this book might help you create some unexpectedly ugly pages in old browsers.

Right now it's about the only book available on DW4, but more advanced books will be out this spring. If you are new to web WSIWYG editors, or are switching from another editor, this book WILL help you get started using Dreamweaver.

5.0 out of 5 stars A perfect introduction to Dreamweaver, February 28, 2001

This book is the perfect complement to an excellent program! Dreamweaver is an enormously deep and well-conceived program, but you may not know it from reading the tutorials that come with the software. In a clear, flowing narrative, the author leads you through all the major functions of Dreamweaver, while giving hints along the way to avoid common pitfals of naive web developers. As a software developer, I don't find the book over-simplified, but instead find it an empowering tutorial guide to the full capabilities of the the software and common web technologies such as Javascript.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sams Teach Yorself Macromedia Dreamweaver 4 in 24 Hours, February 16, 2001
This review is from: Sams Teach Yourself Macromedia Dreamweaver 4 in 24 Hours (Paperback)
Finding myself standing in a place of new job opportunity very recently I needed to get a current web site posted featuring my work fairly quickly. I had not touched Dreamweaver in the last year and needed a quick brain refreasher. This book was absolutely perfect for the job.

I am a designer/animator, not a programmer. I loved the visuals and the clear voice of the book. Very easy to follow and understand. I would recommend this book for a Dreamweaver first-timer, or a refresher course....

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for learning Dreamweaver 4, April 26, 2001

The author did a great job in providing answers/solutions for working with Dreamweaver - in an easy to read yet thorough format.

I especially appreciated the insight provided with the notes, tips and cautions. Even though the book is geared for beginners, it is also good for a refresher and/or reference guide.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good manul and tutorial, February 22, 2001
This review is from: Sams Teach Yourself Macromedia Dreamweaver 4 in 24 Hours (Paperback)
This DW4 book has loads of power user tips that were really helpful in getting up and running with the product. The only negative about the book is no CD with the examples on it. I was able to follow the exercises, using my own graphics, quite well and I feel like I have a good grasp of Dreamweaver capabilities.

It's obvious that the writer has used DW professionally because the tips/notes/cautions are REALLY helpful! Thanks.

As a user of Dreamweaver with a good understanding of the basics, I found this book very helpful. It is well written, easy to read and doesn?t assume you know anything about Dreamweaver. I picked up many useful tips on things I had forgotten or not known and feel more confident tackling the more advanced features which I had not used before. SAMS Teach Yourself Macromedia Dreamweaver 4 in 24 Hours would be very useful, particularly for beginning and intermediate users of Dreamweaver 4.

The biggest problem with the book is the assumption that you know where all of the menu items are located along with the associated icons. The book did a particularly poor job of describing how to implement layers and if there was a money back guarantee I'd ask for my money back.
