This review is from: Teach Yourself Microsoft Frontpage 98 in a Week (2nd Edition) (Paperback)
This book is a great beginner to intermediate aid to Front Page 98. This was my second choice after I had alreaded purchased another Front Page self teaching book. This book included some of the procedures my first book omitted. When this book arrived I was able to finish and publish my web site. I have not found any grey areas or errors in this book.

Have had FrontPage 98 on my computer for 6 months and never used it. Bought David's book and have been very impressed. Has made starting my own perosnal web site much easier and fun than if I had tried to start using FrontPage98 without knowing anything. Look forward to reading more of his books. Great content for people who want to use FrontPage98 to author webpages, but do not want to make a career out of learning the program.

David Karlin's "Teach yourself Microsoft FrontPage 98" is terrific. I purchased the book on a Thursday afternoon and by Saturday I published my site on the Internet. I do not know HTML and I didn't know FrontPage 98 but with Mr. Karlin's well organized and detailed explanations I was able to learn it quickly. Mr. Karlin's book covers everything you need to know to produce terrific websites, from themes, to frames to working with forms and integrating MS Office with FrontPage 98, it is all there in "Teach yourself Microsoft FrontPage 98." I am especially appreciative of the chapters that cover the image composer, how to create interesting graphics and text effects to jazz up my website. This book works both as a tutorial and a reference and I know I'll be referring to it frequently as I continue to play with website design.

I read this book with the hopes of teaching myself FrontPage without too much outside help. The book explains everything for the beginning learner and is also a good reference for those that need to look a few things up. Also, Mr. Karlins is wonderful about personally answering your e-mail with any additional questions you may have. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a FrontPage guide.

I have been given the task of creating a new web page for the public library where I work, so immediately sought help. I consulted others in the profession that had built web sites, and this is the book they recommended. They were certainly correct. This book is presented and formated in excellent, quick chapters that are very lucid. As an added plus, the author, David Karlins, provides readers with a web site and email address where they can get further help (the author is quick to respnd, too!)

I have found this book to be the most useful till date. Though I have read a number of books on MCSE with IIS4 preparation guides, most are theoretical. This is the only book where I have tasted the fruits of my learning. I had successful results in creating and setting up my website (in the short span of 4 weeks). Entirely based on the training provided in this book. This is better than tutor based classroom learning.

Even though I found the book helpful, I was somewhat disapointed that there were not more details. In all fairness though, the book never said it was a "complete-everything-you-could-possible-want-to-know-about-FrontPage 98" encyclopedia. A good book to get you started but you'll need something more for a complete reference.

I couldn't believe how easy it was to learn FP98 with Dave Karlins - his book was truly free from extraneous stuff - just the facts, delivered with wit. It actually took me about 3 or 4 days to go through the book - I can't believe I'm saying this, but it was so exciting to learn a computer program with Karlins. Now I am creating killer web sites in a matter of minutes while my HTML buddies are plugging away at silly code. Haha!

Easy to follow but leaves you hanging over alot of subjects.,

This review is from: Teach Yourself Microsoft Frontpage 97 in a Week (Teach Yourself in a Week) (Paperback)
Content is good, it's just tells you a little about each subject doesn't go into enough detail on the more technical aspects like frames, java, using the database, ect... I only learnt about 7 things I did not know, everything else is all bluff.

When I look for a computer book it is important to me that I feel as if the author is next to me helping me through each task. That is how David Karlins writes in all his books and FP 98 in week is no different. It is clear, helpful, reinforcing after each chapter and as a bonus David provides a great section on using Image Composer something that MS dosen't even include in its manuel that comes with the program. I highly recommend it for the beginner or Pro.
