Learning FP 98 while debugging the book! Forget it!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Teach Yourself Microsoft Frontpage 98 in 24 Hours (Teach Yourself...) (Paperback)
I wish I checked the review of this book before spending money on it. I've barely started working throught the examples and have run into descrepencies between the listings shown in the book and the results from FP. As a beginning FP user, trying to debug the book while learning is way too frustrating. Unless this author provides a way of updating this book (how about his web site? I didn't find it there!!) Andy Shafran will become a black listed author! Don't buy books full of errors! No credibility!

Very well written technical book,

This author really knows how to write well! So often technical computer books read like a cookbook. This book is one of the best. It gives you a basic overview of FrontPage. The author knows how to discuss relevant material and leave out the unnecessary. His judgment here is excellent. It will have you up and using FrontPage right away. Plus you won't fall asleep trying to read it.

Macmillan Is To Blame,

This review is from: Teach Yourself Microsoft Frontpage 98 in 24 Hours (Teach Yourself...) (Paperback)
If you go to the author's website ... he explainshow he wrotethis book in six weeks using an alpha version. Of course there wereerrors, but despite his repeated attempts to get the publisher to correct the mistakes Macmillan refused. They went on to publish this good but flawed book for four reprints, never fixing even one typo. For a while Mr. Shafran had a support site to help people with the mistakes, but has since taken it down as his relationship with Macmillan has soured. I suggest contacting Macmillan's Support Page ... for help or to complain about this product.

A decent Overview Of Most Frontpage Functions,
By A Customer
This review is from: Teach Yourself Microsoft Frontpage 98 in 24 Hours (Teach Yourself...) (Paperback)
It is an overall clear, concise, and well organized instruction manual that goes over most Frontpage elements. However, for some of the more advanced elements, such as style sheets, it barely touches, and instead suggests buying more books from the same publisher. Some of the examples in the book are too advanced for the instructions it gives. Would reccomend to anyone not familiar with Frontpage and just starting; it is an excellent first step and is very informative about various web topics.Unfortunately, it is really nothing more than that, despite its claims as a comprehensive instruction manual.

Learning FP98? This won't be the only book you buy!,

This review is from: Teach Yourself Microsoft Frontpage 98 in 24 Hours (Teach Yourself...) (Paperback)
Don't kid yourselves, folks. This book is content light! After spending your money and investing your time, you'll still need to buy another "real" book about FP98. It's as if the author read the official MS FP98 book, forgot half of what he read, then, put the remainder through an "idiot filter" and put it into print. When I finished it, I couldn't help but think, "Gee, I guess anyone can write a book about a program as popular as FP98 and it will be successful. Heck, maybe even I could do it. Let's see...a snazzy cover, some catchy bs lines..." I guess the market for this stuff is so hot, they can sell anything to folks desperate for help. Friends, if you are serious about utilizing the power of FP98, this book is a joke. Don't waste your money. Amazon has lots of super books on the subject so check them out instead. By the way, don't you think Amazon is great? I love this place! :-)

I've never used FrontPage before buying this book, but now I'm almost ready to send in my first few pages in only a few days. I'm very excited about it and I think it is a good book for people learning for the first time. It starts with the basics and then moves on into the more advanced features and is very easy to read and understand with good directions.

This book is a good reference to getting started with Frontpage. It helped me get up an running in a few minutes. The author's Web site provided up to date info on Frontpage 98 and his book and has an interactive discussion where we can ask him questions. A must buy to learn FrontPage

Full of mistakes,
By A Customer
This review is from: Teach Yourself Microsoft Frontpage 98 in 24 Hours (Teach Yourself...) (Paperback)
The book looks good by just browsing through it, however the screens printed in hour 2 of the book don't match FrontPage 98 actual screens. This will confuse and befuddle the new user. It looks as if this was a rehash of a FrontPage 97 book with no new graphics. The book doesn't appear
to have been proof-read at all.
The authors website doesn't appear to offer any
solutions to this problem.
A book that looses its readers in the second
chapter is worthless.
