This book is for beginners who want to learn Microsoft Publisher 98 (the low-end desktop-publishing program) in as little time as possible. Each of the 24 one-hour lessons entails step-by-step instruction, discussions of the program's features, and summaries and quizzes. The beginning lessons focus on the basics: you open and close files, learn the Publisher interface, and create a new publication. Next you design pages by working with frames, columns, headers, footers, backgrounds, and printing specs, and by adding, editing, and rearranging text. Next, you add existing graphics and original WordArt, work with color, prepare your work for a printing service, examine proofs, and use the mail-merge feature to create mass mailings. This book does give a very basic introduction to this program. For people who will actually USE the program should find a more detailed book. The Dummies Series in this case is a better option.

I was able to grasp the concepts of the book within a very short time, although I had not done any desktop publishing before. The author needs, however to be more specific in certain areas, such as when he speaks about creating multiple spread. Very worthwhile buy.
