If you have learned or studied some music theory then this book is OK. If you haven't you might get lost in the theory as the book "presumes" that you know some theory. The lesson plans are good and I believe that by the time you get all the way through the book you would know how to play keyboard. I am taking lessons from a piano teacher as well as using this book, and I have some music theory training. If theory is completely new to you then I would suggest a keyboard book in the "For Dummies" line; or find someone who can explain basic theory to you. It does help to have some theory knowledge as it helps with rhythm & tempo in your playing.

When I looked in this book with it's preview of contents I thought it would be a great choice instead of a piano book. This book doesn't go far enough explaining the left hand and how to use both hands at once. It's a little confusing. I will use the book for playing the songs in it. I suggest John Thompson's courses. It's what I learned from from fifty years ago. Don't waste your money on this one.

Bought this for my boyfriend and he likes it.

Only drawback is his keyboard and the keyboard referenced in the book are different, and the product info doesn't tell you what kind of keyboard is in the book.

I have been trying for a short while and the books steps are great for a real beginner like me.

well written, simple and easy instructions for the beginner. I use it daily and I am starting to be able to play the basics. Recommend for beginners.

This book is a wonderful investment for anyone wanting to teach themselves to play keyboard without having to pay for lessons!

Learning to play a keyboard if you have no background in piano is no simple affair. Some very quick people may be able to pull it off with just a simple beginners book like this but I suspect most of us will need a teacher or a friend's instructions.
