If you are new to guitar, and don't know how to read music, this book is for you. It is straightforward, and simple using the tablature method rather than standard music theory-which will give you a basic start on beginning to understand reading music and music theory later on if you choose. By taking some time doing the exercises, I was strumming away faster than I thought and have also learned that their are a number of music sheet books with tab measures which can let you go on beyond this book and play a lot of different forms of music. It is geared toward the absolute beginner, and is not overwhelming. I can say that it has helped me, but like anything else it does take practice.

Dave Brewster has put together an easy to use guide for individual learning and small group instruction. The diagrams are easy to read and explain even in a bilingual English/Spanish situation. This book gives a thorough orientation to acoustic & electric guitars and teaches the basics for tuning, playing chords, strumming patterns and some notation reading. I appreciate the teaching of relative tuning for times when an electronic tuner is not available.

Nice book for beginner guitar students. This book teaches notation rather than how to read music. Notation is faster for most beginners and gets you going onto more cords and complex songs quicker.

This is a simple straight forward book. It gives instructions where needed and doesn't overwhelm a beginner. The songs included are easy to play and you do not have to read music to play them..

A nice and concise introduction to basic guitar playing. I expected it to be bigger in size, but it turned out to be more of a magazine/booklet kind of thing, not a real book. However, it is basic guitar in a nutshell for beginners who do not know musical note. Those looking for more details should seek another book
