TEACH Yourself PowerBuilder 5.0, March 24, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Teach Yourself... Powerbuilder 5 (Teach Yourself Visually) (Paperback)
Parts of the book are really good. But I have found errors in the code and steps were left out while descriping the process of adding controls to windows. All of this leaves you confussed. The author should have worked the code just as he is explanning it to ensure that it works correctly.

Do you enjoy frustration?, July 27, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Teach Yourself... Powerbuilder 5 (Teach Yourself Visually) (Paperback)
If you're new to PowerBuilder but have programming experience, you might be able to learn something from this book.
If you're new to programming, pass this one up entirely.
The author has some very good concepts to teach and covers PowerBuilder features well. However, the example programs in the book DO NOT match the program listings on the disk and the author has a tendency to jump ahead of the reader in the examples. This causes compiler warnings that are not explained. If the reader is willing to put up with the frustration involved, there are some valuable lessons to be learned by printing out the disk source code and comparing it to the text.
All in all, the author has the right idea, but extensive proof-reading and editing are necessary before it will become a useful text for those wanting to learn PowerBuilder

Good book, althought it needs proofreading!, November 4, 1997

If you're a programmer new at Powerbuilder 5. This books is for you. Be warned that there are errors associated with this book. Plenty of typos causing compilation errors. If you're an optimistic coder, this book will be benificial as you find typo problems, fix them, red-line the errors in the book and learn along the way. If you're a pessimist, you'll SCREAM!!!

Very Disappointed!, January 1, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Teach Yourself... Powerbuilder 5 (Teach Yourself Visually) (Paperback)
The author covers just about everything in PowerBuilder but that's about it. Lots of typos and his explanations aren't clear or confusing in his topics and examples. Seems like the author rushed to get the book printed or didn't care enough to do a good job. I'll need to buy another PowerBuilder book to supplement what's lacking in this book.
