5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful HTML Tutorial for the Beginner
This is the best book ever written for the beginner on HTML. It is easy to read, it contains a good reference, and it doesn't bog you down with technical detail.

Read this book first. When you are comfortable with the teachings in this book, then add Oreilly's HTML: a definitive guide to your collection.

3.0 out of 5 stars A good book for Beginners
Quite a good book for beginners who wants to learn not only HTML, but a bit of everything eg. JavaScript, CGI, images and plug-in.

Why I didn't give it a FOUR star is because the book going far too detail. What it covers in 200 pages can be indeed covered in 40 pages. To be fair, I am an experienced software developer so I can just go thru the syntax and learn...

Why I didn't give it a FOUR star is because the book going far too detail. What it covers in 200 pages can be indeed covered in 40 pages. To be fair, I am an experienced software developer so I can just go thru the syntax and learn the language.

Anyway, it did really give me valuable background information other than just learning HTML.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to understand book that covers it all, May 5, 2000
By
This review is from: Teach Yourself Web Publishing With Html 3.2 in 14 Days: Premier Edition (Teach Yourself (Teach Yourself)) (Hardcover)
Several years ago I used this book to teach myself HTML. I started on page one and went through the book. By the time I went through the very clearly written chapters I had an excellent understanding of HTML. I had bought other books, but they were not organized as logically and clearly as this book is. After buying this book, the only other HTML book I ever opened was a tag book. This even has color codes and other resource materials.

Because of this book (and several years of heavy practice) I now consider myself an expert HTML user, and I've been confidently able to move on to CSS, nested tables, and other fancy stuff without relying on WYSIWYG editors.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent coverage..., January 30, 1999

I have had this book for some 3 years now. I also have Net Objects Fusion 2 and Javascript from the same author. I don't understand when people write negative responses to Laura's work. I have always found her coverage to be excellent, clean and sensible in its presentation. These books are getting rather tatty now - I use them constantly for reference and always find them useful.

Well done Miss Lemay - excellent work!

PS. Have you written anything on JBuilder Pro 1.0?

4.0 out of 5 stars As a "HTML beginner", I found this book to be very helpful., April 16, 1998

Ever since learning MS DOS, I've enjoyed plowing through "How-to" books about various aspects of computing. If you like to learn this way, Laura Lemay's HTML book is great. It takes a lot longer than 14 days (unless you have absolutely nothing else to do, and fantastic powers of concentration) but you will learn the basics of HTML 3.2. My advice is to work through the examples on your computer, rather than just read through the book like a novel, and check Lemay's Web page for corrections!

I have seen courses advertised at an Australian University for $2 000 (Australian) that don't teach much more than this book. At $100 (Australian) this book is a bargain.

Lemay's book is the only HTML reference that you need!

The first half of this book contains almost all the essentials required for designing a www presentation. The information is very clearly presented and is a pleasure to read.

It took me three days (3 or 4 hours / day) to master the basics (using Laura's book) and I now make lots of money designing sophisticated web sites.

1.0 out of 5 stars Just didn't make sense to me at all, October 17, 1997

Lemay didn't make sentse much of the time. Much of the problem is with the presentation and lack of insights. I agree with others who said you should get Stanek's Web Publishing Unleashed Reference Professional Edition instaed.

1.0 out of 5 stars Tired and worn and boring, October 5, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Teach Yourself Web Publishing With Html 3.2 in 14 Days: Premier Edition (Teach Yourself (Teach Yourself)) (Hardcover)
I have to agree with previous reviewers who said this book just doesn't add up. This book is hardly an exhaustive look at HTML 3.2 or a exhaustive look at anything for that matter. This book is very confusing and poorly written. I recommend looking elsewhere. Two good HTML books come to mind:

William Stanek's Web Publishing Unleashed Professional Reference
HTML The Definitive Guide
HTML Sourcebook

Ooops that's three, isn't it? Out of all those I think I like William Stanek's book the best. You be da judge.

Forget the carping about Lemay's career. This is an excellent, complete look at HTML 3.2 if you've never worked in it. The "frames" training here is the best I've ever seen in any HTML book. And, to Lemay's critics, yes, some of what's in here is outdated, but it wasn't when she wrote it. There are millions of people who still need this information, and this book is one excellent way to get it

Laura writes for the BEGINNER...and she does it well! If you are chin deep already, this book is not for you. The book makes you a "doer", not a "reader". You CAN learn HTML in 14 days. It will take you longer to do it WELL. In the beginning, everyone is a beginner. THANKS Laura, for helping us get past "on your marks, get set" and move forward to "GO!"
