4.0 out of 5 stars A great reference tool, perhaps not a primary learning tool
I am presently using this book as a recommended text in an HTML college class. It is not the primary text, but I am CONSTANTLY referring to it because it is so thorough. I recommend it for anyone who is SERIOUS about learning HTML in depth.

1.0 out of 5 stars Makes a handy doorstop
This book came HIGHLY recommended and I have to admit I'm completely disappointed. If I hadn't opened the CD I'd return it. Tries to touch on everything but leaves you with an understanding of nothing. Makes the simplest things very complicated. I bought SAMS Teach Yourself HTML in 24 Hours ($20.00, 450 pages, paperback) prior to this purchase and find myself...

I bought SAMS Teach Yourself HTML in 24 Hours ($20.00, 450 pages, paperback) prior to this purchase and find myself referencing that book because LeMay either covers the topic in such a disjointed manner or doesn't cover it at all. Buy a less expensive book. This one just isn't worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very comprehensive and challenging look at HTML, January 20, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Teach Yourself Web Publishing With Html 3.2 in 14 Days: Second Professional Reference Edition (Teach Yourself in 14 Days) (Hardcover)
This is an excellent book for those who want to learn HTML without using an Editor. This is an excellent book for those who are dedicated to learning HTML properly. Most of the people I talked to that did not like this book were the type of people that thought it was just easier to use FrontPage. While this is true, they are missing the point. This is an excellent book to teach HTML as well as use as a reference guide after you have learned HTML.

1.0 out of 5 stars LeMay + Sams net = Mass Produced Computer Junk Books, May 19, 1998

This review is from: Teach Yourself Web Publishing With Html 3.2 in 14 Days: Second Professional Reference Edition (Teach Yourself in 14 Days) (Hardcover)
It seems that Ms LeMay is more interested in putting out as many books on the hottest computing topics as fast as she can churn them out without much thought to content. The book is replete with erroneous code, typos and other errors. And they have the gall to put a stamp on the book "Guaranteed Timely and Accurate".

4.0 out of 5 stars the drone(s) trashing Lemay, March 1, 1998

Lemay writes quite useful reference books. I too am suspicious of all the subliterate carping being offered in these online reviews. They have convinced me of one thing: I should *not* "check out Stanek's book." Stanek, if these ill-educated cretins are your friends, you don't need enemies.

1.0 out of 5 stars All dressed up and nowhere to go!, February 10, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Teach Yourself Web Publishing With Html 3.2 in 14 Days: Second Professional Reference Edition (Teach Yourself in 14 Days) (Hardcover)
Basically this is an expanded version of the smaller book. Lots of filler added but no real substance to make up for higher price. Teach Yourself HTML may have brought Lemay notoriety but it was hardly because the original book was good. It was more a matter of timing. At the time there were only a few other HTML books and lots of people wanted to learn publishing for the Web. Lemay has a knack for timing. Her Teach Yourself Java hit the peak demand period as well. It too sold well in the first edition but again this was timing not because it was a good book.

Teach Yourself hit the streets with the Mosaic browser and Netscape version 1. The Web has advanced tremendously since the days of Mosaic and Netscape 1. Unfortunately Lemay's understanding of Web technology hasn't. Lemay doesn't have a clue about the current state of the web and this book reflects that lack of understanding.

As far as web books go this one is a dud. Readers of all skill levels (Yes beginners too!) should look elsewhere. For beginners who just want the basics I recommend Castro's Visual Quickstart Guide to HTML. For beginners and intermediate who want to know the whole story I recommend Web Publishing Unleashed Professional Reference Edition.

This review is from: Teach Yourself Web Publishing With Html 3.2 in 14 Days: Second Professional Reference Edition (Teach Yourself in 14 Days) (Hardcover)
Laura Lemay is a great source of information on web publishing for the advanced to the beginner. Her books are easy to understand with plenty of examples and thing you can use right away. Better than the dummies for dummies books
