Very hard, very complicated book. NOT FOR BEGINNERS...,

This review is from: Teach Yourself Turbo C++ 4.5 for Windows in 21 Days (Teach Yourself in 21 Days) (Paperback)
I gave up after day 6. The book has too many typographical errors, and some of the code is hard to follow. If you need a good start on programming in C++, purchase C++ Primer Plus by Stephen Prata.

Borland endorses this book as the official tome to use for learning Turbo C++. Unfortunately, for an absolute beginner it is a difficult book.

A good book but it could be better,

This is a good book, but I don't recommend it if you are a new comer with no previous programming experience. The concepts taught and the example code are quite good. The main problems with this book is that there are many small errors here and there that would drive a beginner crazy. The book moves quite fast expecting you to know and pick up certain things quickly. I recommend this book if you have some previous basic knowlegde of C++ and are ready to move onto some basic Windows programming.

The intent is great; unfortunately, the editing is awful.,

As an experienced programmer, when I decided to learn C++, I purchased this book. The concept is excellent, and its structure well-paced. It should, ideally be usable by the novice-to-casual computer user, as the scale on the back cover indicates; unfortunately, this is not the case. This otherwise fine volume falls prey to one serious problem: the editing is very poor. As a result, there are many typos within the C++ program code examples, resulting in programs that simply won't run! As a programmer experienced in several other languages, I was able to determine the problems and correct them; I can only imagine that an individual new to programming, whom this book purports to be able to teach, would be thoroughly confused and frustrated by the many incorrect examples of C++ code he/she finds in this volume. If and when these problems are corrected, I would have no hesitation in recommending this book to anyone wanting to learn the basic elements of C++. Until that time, it should remain a volume for use only by those who have a firm grounding in computer languages, who can see these small but numerous "bugs" before they bite!

This is awfully bad book to learn C++. Sheer waste of money. The code is awful. Horrendous typos. Most of the code is buggy.

Sams publishing should be ashamed (unfortunately they're too busy counting their money from people like me that were stupid enough to buy their books). If you are trying to learn to program in C++, avoid this title AND this publisher. If you must read their books for reference--check them out from the local library (and then make a donation with the money you save). READER WARNING: This book (and other sam's titles) will make you want to slam your head against the wall!

First - this book has many typographical errors. If you have some prior experience in programming then this book is highly recommended otherwise you will take more time as you will have to go slowly but nevertheless it contains all the details you need to have for going ahead if you have no prior experience of programming. Expecting an exhaustive coverage of all topics is an impossible task with modern computers & I consider this book worth all the time I devoted, even the bugs in the code seems to consolidate your understanding in the end.
