Visually Beautiful,
By
This review is from: Teach Yourself VISUALLY Drawing (Paperback)
I loved every page of illustration. The authors made a huge effort to include renderings from a variety of artists, which means that you get a whole range of styles of drawing. They have also done a great job of breaking down the drawing process into logical parts, and each chapter is devoted to a different aspect of drawing. This book could be used as a text book for many levels, but it also works well by itself so you can teach yourself. The authors provide structured tasks that you can complete before going on, and I found I could read it straight through just for pleasure! With so many drawing examples, and it is a treat to turn the page. One other nice thing--their tips are completely spot on. For example, they tell you to stand back from your work--something both beginners and experienced artists don't do often enough! Thorough, cleanly presented, thoughtful--perfect!

I haven't started working out of the book yet. The book begins with information about drawing materials, and where to buy them. There are lessons on shading, angles, perspective, etc. Some of drawings look pretty advanced but it looks like the author walks you through different techniques. One thing I noticed is there is really no instruction on how to achieve the texture of the objects so this book may not be good for someone who is just beginning to sketch.
