4.0 out of 5 stars Good overview
I am a visual learner, thus I chose a book with pictures--hurray! Who says picture books are just for children? =) In any case, the book provides a relatively good overview of how to navigate Macs. If you have ever used a computer, the book is relatively easy to follow. If you have never used a computer, well, take your time I suppose. I noticed a couple of errors...

2.0 out of 5 stars Still looking for a simple guide

I purchased this book because we had just bought the MacBook Pro and I thought visual aids would help. I'm sure it is useful for those who are more experienced with computers, but this book assumes that one understands many terms that I do not. For example, I found the instructions for taking a screen shot, but am still trying to figure out how to manage the...

4.0 out of 5 stars Good overview, October 9, 2010
This review is from: Teach Yourself VISUALLY Macs (Teach Yourself VISUALLY (Tech)) (Paperback)
I noticed a couple of errors (and there may be more) and the only reason I was aware of the errors is my prior light dabbling with Macs. One I noticed is it mentioned to toggle between programs you press and hold the "command" key, but that doesn't work for me on my Macbook--I actually press "command + tab." Also, to force quit an application the book stated to press "command + option + command" when it is in fact "command + option + esc." Regardless, the book is decent and the internet is always a great resource if the directions provided in the book are not activating the function you are seeking. I'm still learning and having fun. Hope ya'll do the same!

5.0 out of 5 stars Teach Yourself Visually / Macs, June 16, 2009

This review is from: Teach Yourself VISUALLY Macs (Teach Yourself VISUALLY (Tech)) (Paperback)
This is an excellent publication for a person considering the purchase of a Mac as it gives a comprehensive overview of the various Macs available and describes in detail how all or most of the many Mac features are accessed and used. I frequently use them as reference sources to access some feature or activate some process I haven't used before. I highly recommend this book to any prospective, and existing, Mac user as well as the 'Teach Yourself Visually / Mac OS X Leopard'.

I purchased this book because we had just bought the MacBook Pro and I thought visual aids would help. I'm sure it is useful for those who are more experienced with computers, but this book assumes that one understands many terms that I do not. For example, I found the instructions for taking a screen shot, but am still trying to figure out how to manage the shots now that they are on the desktop. My husband, who is more comfortable with computers than I am, is also frustrated with this book. We would really appreciate a book that starts with the basics and uses natural language. Again, I'm sure it is helpful to those who already know computers, but I do not recommend it for beginners.
