5.0 out of 5 stars Valuable and empowering September 8, 2010
    By HT
    Format:Paperback
This book was a valuable companion to me as I wandered into the WordPress world with no experience at all. Like many people, I find it easier to work through a new program on-screen and not by reading about it. However, this book provided "screen shots" and entertaining graphics that led me through every challenge in setting up a WordPress blog. It gives detailed information in an easy to understand and to implement form. It made learning WordPress a fun and easy process.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for the Basics January 12, 2011
    Format:Paperback|Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
"Teach Yourself WordPress Visually" is a book that is a good beginning point for someone who wants to start blogging but has little or no web experience. It walks you through the ins and outs of a basic Wordpress setup along with some screen captures to illustrate the points. This is purely an elementary level book and would be of little use to someone with more experience. Those expecting more will undoubtedly be unimpressed and/or disappointed.

As for Wordpress itself, I have found it an excellent choice for blogging. The emphasis here is more on that available at Wordpress.com but users with specific needs may wish to consider getting space from a webhost where you would have much more control. This is dealt with only passingly in the book albeit this is understandable given the overall purpose.

For those novices looking for a start with Wordpress, this is a very good choice. For more advanced users, you would probably be able to figure out everything in this book on your own and need a more advanced survey of the platform's capabilities.

3.0 out of 5 stars Beautifully illustrated, disappointingly simple December 6, 2010
    Format:Paperback|Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
I use WordPress on a domain that I purchased, and I've been writing and using it consistently for about nine months. Unfortunately, most of the advice/instructions in the book are things I figured out on my own, some easily, and some not so much. If you're getting ready to set up a blog and haven't started yet, I'd say this book is probably worth the time and money. If your blog is already up and running, though, most of this will probably not be new to you.
