This is a wonderful book to use the first day of school!A little boy is afraid that his new teacher will be a green monster. He is relieved to discover that she is pleasantly human after all. Follow-up: Have the students write a story about what their dream teacher would be like.

The Teacher from the Black Lagon,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Teacher From The Black Lagoon (Paperback)
The Teacher from the Black Lagoon Mike Thaler wrote the book The Teacher from the Black Lagoon. Jared Lee did the all of the wonderful pictures. It was published by Scholastic books. The book is 29 pages long and I would recemend it for 6-8 year olds.It might be a little to hard for kids under 6 and to easy for kids older then 8.The little boy is afraid of who he would get for his teacher because it is the first day of school. The boy falls asleep and starts to dream about something.(YOU WILL FIND OUT IN THE BOOK)Then the bell rings and he wakes up. My favorite part is when he was deaming because it was telling what he thought his day would be like.I was afraid who I ould get for my teacher. I think they should of put in how the rest of the year went. And I ...loved this book and you would too!

I'm surprised by the other more recent reviews on this one... I read it to my class, and they LOVED IT! I can't wait to get the entire set, so that they can read more about the lovely imaginations of the "Black Lagoon" series. Great illustrations, vocabulary, and descriptive imagery!!! Definitely a keeper!

Warts, whips, dandruff, and more...,
Through his vivid descriptions and outlandish characters, Mike Thaler provides excellent entertainment for readers of all ages. The Teacher from the Black Lagoon goes the extra mile, playing on the familiar fear of the first day of school. With the perfect blend of humor, action, and craziness this book brings out the kid in all of us.

My son loves this and all books by mike thayler. They are fun and funny! Most have a lesson also (not to pre-judge a new situation or person. The writing is snappy and pun-filled. The pictures are a hoot. This is a book that is read and re-read and is a favorite "car-book" Highly reccommened.

This review is from: The Teacher From The Black Lagoon (Paperback)
We have just finished reading all 7 of the Black Lagoon Books in my third grade class. My students just loved them. They are interested in writing to Mr. Thaler to let him know how much they enjoyed his book. Any ideas of how to contact him?

A Teacher Who Teaches Children To Read!,
This review is from: The Teacher From The Black Lagoon (Paperback)
To the naysayers and detractors of Mike Thaler's books, cut it out. When dealing with reluctant readers Mike Thaler's The Teacher From the Black Lagoon series gets youngsters to read. Other great authors for reluctant readers are John Scieszka and Dav Pilkey. These books are geared towards little boys that dislike reading. Give a reluctant reader a book with potty humor, heads cut off and general silliness and you'll get that child to read. So it's not Frog and Toad or Nate the Great. Get over it.

Meet my teacher, the fire-breathing, student-eating, ogre.,
By A Customer
This is a picture/story book describing the fears and reservations a student experiences on his first day of class. A cute and funny tale uses exaggerations to make the point that new experiences are really nothing to fear.

The teacher does some different things to the kids when they misbehaved in class. I especially liked the fire parts because I like volcanoes and dragons.
