5.0 out of 5 stars Between Parent and Child, March 5, 2000
By
This review is from: Teacher and Child (Hardcover)
To the publishers of this wonderful classic book on parenting. I found this book to be THE best book I ever read on parenting. I would even go so far as to say this may be the best and clearest book on human communication skills as well. I often recommended it to couples who were having trouble with basic communication. I am a trained social worker and have read many thousands of help, psychology and growth and development books. None surpassed this great writing of Ginott. I am dismayed to find that it is out of print. I wanted to give it to my own daughter who is now raising a two year old and and doing day care for five other toddlers. It was my plan to gift her with the book that had once helped me so when she was a two year old. Please find a way to once again publish this great book of wisdom for parenting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ginott/Between Parent and Child/Between Parent and Teenager/, September 19, 2000
This review is from: Teacher and Child (Hardcover)
I am disappointed that Ginott's books are both out of stock and out of print. I have read books by other authors who participated in workshops run by Haim Ginott. These other books were helpful to me, but I would like to read for myself the works that influenced so many. For example, Dr. Myrna B. Shure, in her book RAISING A THINKING CHILD, teaches techniques for helping children to solve problems by learning how to recognize feelings (their own and those of others) and communicate. This book has been extremely helpful to our family. Shure speaks of Dr. Ginott's influence as beneficial, as do authors such as Faber, Mazlish, and Coloroso. My six year old has learned to think of and evaluate alternatives instead of automatically throwing a tantrum and now I can model better behavior for him because of information from these other authors who were so influenced by Ginott. Please find a way to bring us Haim Ginott's works once again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Between Parent and Child is a must for any parent., August 2, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Teacher and Child (Hardcover)
I have read Between Parent and Child (and its companion book, Liberated Parents, Liberated Children). I have found it to be extremely helpful in helping me to be a good parent and raise a mensch -- a centered, grounded, stable, courteous child. Dr. Ginott's advice makes sense, is reasonable to apply in day-to-day life, and is also useful in any personal relationship. It is required reading for anyone who takes their child-rearing duties seriously.

I have recommended it to many friends, especially those who are having difficulty with one or more of their children's behavior.

5.0 out of 5 stars Successfully raised my daughters. and again for grandchild,, July 27, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Teacher and Child (Hardcover)
How lucky for me that I discovered Haim Ginott's "Between Parent & Child" when I was first pregnant. My daughters were raised by this standard and today I am the proud mother of two beautiful, successful, married women (27 & 28) who are now starting families of their own. One of the first things that has been requested of me was to have the same book that I used to guide me through parenting. How sad that this treasure is no longer in print.

The evidence that this book works above any others is the well-adjusted, happy, individual, and independent daughters that are now aware of the exceptional childhood they experienced. The methods used built confidence and self esteem and provided a solid foundation from which they could grow, express themselves, make decisions, take risks, become good students, and surround themselves with good friends.

Their good behavior brought attention. so bad behavior was minimal. They never had eating disorders or sleep problems. They were fun to be with and taken to restaurants, on vacations, and crowded places even as an infant. They were encouraged to have their own opinions, express their feelings and make decisions and we, as parents, listened.

From infancy they were loved, respected and treated individually as real persons. They grew up loving, respecting themselves and others.

Because of who and what my daughtersn have grown to be, I feel like the richest woman alive today. And for that, I thank Haim Ginott. He taught me how to teach my children.

To the publishers, plese print the Haim Ginott books. In this age of cyberspace, the human touch is most needed and most necessary. The next generation truly needs and deserves the teachings of Haim Ginott.

The best gift a parent can give his/her child is Haim Ginott Parenting. Please make it possible.

5.0 out of 5 stars Between Parent and Child by Dr. Haim Ginott, October 4, 2000

Rita H Brown (Houston, TX USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Teacher and Child (Hardcover)
This was the book I used when raising my children (35 and 33 now). It far surpasses anything I read before or since in helping parents understand how to succesfully communicate with their child. Dr. Ginott's sensible suggestions regarding everyday situations allowed our family to deal with such things as the "spilled milk", the misplaced anger, etc. in a constructive and satisfying manner. I would very much like to give a copy to my daughter and son who are raising my grandsons. Is there anything that can be done to convince the publishers to print this very wonderful book again?

5.0 out of 5 stars A timeless gem, March 3, 2002
This review is from: Teacher and Child (Hardcover)
Many teenagers have an inner radar that detects what irritates their parents. If we value neatness our teenager will be sloppy, his room messy, his clothes repulsive, and his hair unkempt and long How do you make your years with your teenager not just tolerable, but enjoyable? What typical mistakes do parents make and what are the alternative civilized ways to raise your teenagers? Although dated, I owe much of my joyful years with my teenagers to Dr. Ginott's timeless advice.
This book is a timeless gem on how to find solutions during your child's teenage years.

I was one of the lucky ones! I took a child raising class when my children were little and this was the text. It gave me great parenting skills and made my life with my children fun. They were well behaved and a joy at home, church, shopping, vacations, etc. I give a great deal of credit to Dr. Ginott. What a shame I can't obtain a book for the parents of my grandchildren. I can only lone out my copy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding, April 5, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Teacher and Child (Hardcover)
I was looking for this book for my children to use in understanding their children. I think it put Dr. Spock to shame. I found this to be the most readable, practical, user friendly book of interactions between parents and children I ever read. I am a health care professional and had good access to self help literature. Dr. Ginott's books were the best. I think they could help a whole new generation of parents if reprinted.

The best part of these books is they are funny and entertaining. They do not read like a text book and you are able to absorb the information painlessly.

I had a wild ride raising a ADD child and this book saved my son, myself and my sanity. Please reprint this book for other mothers.

Thanks

My children are now 40-ish and I gave this book them to help them raise my grandchildren as Between Parent & Child had been an invaluable resource for me as a parent. Now, I have great-grandchildren and am writing the dissertation for my doctorate in education on the topic of THE EFFECT OF EDUCATION IN PARENTING STYLE ON THE PERCEIVED QUALITY OF PARENT, GRANDPARENT, AND GRANDCHILD COMMUNICATION EFFICACY. Yup!! You guessed it! I have designed my study around Dt. Ginott and especially around the book, Between Parent & Child. May God bless Dr. Ginott's kind and beautiful spirit!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Parent Seeking Advice, November 1, 2000

I am the father of a four-year-old girl. My parents told me that they found Between Parent and Child and Between Parent and Teenager extremely helpful when raising me. Although my parents' input has been extremely helpful in raising my daughter, I would also like to have the benefit of the wisdom set forth in these two books. I sincerely hope that they are reprinted soon. Thank you.
