Darling-Hammond is well known as leading educator in America, a vigorous advocate of teacher preparation in good universities and flagrant critic of American shortcuts, including privatization of public school model. Since teacher education is seen as main external factor in student performance (as shown in Finnish school results in PISA), it’s most important issue for education reform. It’s not enough to impart content through classes – this reproductive didactics is well antiquate – teachers need to be able to produce own knowledge, so that they can guarantee student opportunity to become authors in knowledge construction. Very competent educator of our times.
