Great resource on what to say on report cards. When you don't know how to say the right thing, this book says it in a nice, to the point way, with translations in Spanish.

As a teacher dealing with Spanish speaking parents, I found this book so helpful because it provides accurate translations of comments from English to Spanish. It provides plenty of examples for conveying my students matters of interest to the parents in simple objective language.

I use this weekly for home reports. It opens lines of communication between school and home and allows parents that speak Spanish to communicate better with an English speaking teacher.

This book is great for generic comments, or when you can't think of a tactful way to describe certain behaviors or weakness that some students have. I teach a class where 75% of the students are second language learners. Their primary language is Spanish. I did find that I could not express all of the comments I had to make in Spanish, such as "______ needs to stop blurting out responses in class" and "_______ needs to practice reading orally at home every night". For those cases, I had to get help from my peers. My Spanish is limited, and I wanted to make sure my comments were grammatically correct.

I used an older version of this book for many years when I was teaching in elementary grades. I loved it. I am now mentoring beginning teachers, and they, too, have found it a valuable tool in brainstorming to find the appropriate words to include in notes to parents. I like that it includes the Spanish versions as well. I highly recommend this book to new teachers, because it offers positive and constructive feedback in reporting academic progress. Thank you.
