Editorial Reviews

From the Back Cover

This thoroughly revised and updated edition of the acclaimed The Art Teacher's Book of Lists offers a practical yet comprehensive guide to everything arts educators need to know—from art history basics to a wealth of project ideas that will transform art learners into art lovers.

This dynamic resource includes more than 125 projects that art teachers, from novice to veteran, can use as everyday lessons. To enhance students' experience and fit with existing lesson plans, many projects combine art with science, math, language arts, and social studies. In each chapter, veteran art instructor Helen Hume describes the historical, cultural, and educational aspects of teaching art and offers tips on everything from photographing art to creating books.

Designed for busy educators, each of the book's lessons offers a description of the necessary preparation, explores interdisciplinary connections, gives clear instructions, and lists alternative projects. There are also tips on adapting projects for children with special needs and students at different grade levels.

The Art Teacher's Book of Lists, Second Edition helps art teachers encourage creativity in their students and integrate winning ideas into their lessons while aligning them with National Standards.

4.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for the new Art Teacher January 18, 2012
Format:Paperback
All good art teachers will make these lists for themselves as they go. But this book compounds so many at your fingertips. It's wonderful to flip through to stir up new ideas and inspirations, as well as a quick reference and dictionary for all things related to the art room! It would make a nice gift- even to yourself- if you're the teacher! :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for Art Teachers (in training) December 4, 2011
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I bought this to add to my collection of helpful books for teaching art while completing my year of student teaching. It is great. Has fun, complete, and diverse lists, can be easy to incorporate in the classroom daily. Everything you need to know and all the stuff I forgot in undergrad Art History. :)

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Cool February 14, 2011
Format:Paperback
When I first saw this book something clicked. I love lists and I love art. Helen Hume's combination of the two proves extremely helpful as a resource and as a jumping off point. It seems pretty extensive.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Reference February 6, 2014
By beth
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book has good information that any savvy teacher can leverage to build more interesting and dynamic classroom units around. It is not meant as a substitute for proper preparation, but as a resource in your process. As a source of vocabulary and artist suggestions alone it is invaluable.

This book is very useful when it comes to looking at time lines or important artists for specific periods. However, there are barely any visual aids.

2.0 out of 5 stars Consistenly poor binding! April 14, 2015
By Barney
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Bought this for daughter about to become art teacher in Denver. Looks like a good book and may help her with the Praxis II test also...but this is the second copy I've received due to the poor binding. The first one's binding was broken on delivery (not by handling just poor construction). The latest has the same problem revealing itself as soon as I tried to carefully and properly spread the binding. (Only upside is that if one wanted to copy individual pages, they're easy to get out -- but if you don't want to lose half of the book just carrying it, there's a major problem.)
