A Master Teacher tells how its done., August 16, 2011
This review is from: The Teacher's Classroom Companion: A Handbook for Primary Teachers (Paperback)
Mary Coons was a master teacher. There are years of wisdom in this book, wisdom that you will find easily accessible.
I was privileged to know Mrs. Coons from the point of view of a parent. The first thing she taught was respect. Each young student figured out during the first week in her class that as a matter of principle they, the students, would never want to do anything that was "rude". You could tell the students from her class by the way they said the word rude. Can you imagine what teaching and learning was like in that atmosphere?
I am so glad that these books are selling so cheaply at Amazon because I was tempted to sell my copy and now I have reread parts of it and have been inspired to live up to her high standards for teaching and communicating to others not just young students.
