Editorial Reviews

Review

"It is likely that this book will become a popular reference volume on the shelves of all frontline clinicians who deal with young patients and their parents, and it will serve this target group admirably."-- "J clin psychiatry", "July 2007"

From the Back Cover

"Parents, teachers, and young patients require accurate, up-to-date information about psychotropic agents. This resource book meets this very important need. The handouts are clear, well-written, and extremely practical. The fact that there are handouts that are specifically tailored for parents, youngsters, and teachers will make this book an invaluable resource to the conscientious clinician."--Robert L. Findling, M.D., Director, Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, University Hospitals of Cleveland, Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio

"Clinicians will find these handouts on psychiatric medications a great aid in informing patients and their families and teachers. They are informative and clearly written, describing medications and their effects in a balanced fashion. The full range of psychiatric medications in current use in children and adolescents are covered without being simplistic or overly detailed. Parents, youth, and teachers will appreciate the respectful tone in which the handouts address them. Since the handouts can be printed from the included CD, they will be very convenient to use in the office. This book will be a valuable resource for the busy clinician."--Steven R. Pliszka, M.D., Associate Professor and Chief, Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, UTHSCSA, Dept. of Psychiatry, San Antonio, Texas

"Parents (and children) ask why we recommend a particular medication. They want to know how it works, what its side-effects are, and how it should be monitored. Our personal explanations are essential, but may not be enough. Parents want it in writing as well. They need something to show the child's teacher; school nurses need the information too. We may write our own handouts, or save time by using those given to us by pharmaceutical houses. But here is a comprehensive collection of information sheets prepared by expert clinicians and tested with patients. Copy them from the CD, personalize them, and use them in your practice. You will find them up-to-date and accurate; fully revised from the first edition."--Peter E. Tanguay, M.D., Ackerly Endowed Professor of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Department of Psychiatry, University of Louisville School of Medicine, Louisville, Kentucky
