Teaching Adult ESL is a wonderful compendium of research and practical ideas for implementation in the adult ESL classroom. Betsy Parrish fills a gap by providing current theory and the implementation of what works. It appears to be designed for a college class because there are review exercises, but unlike the traditional text, they are modeling the techniques of the things that work. Students are put into pairs to work on things, and examine what they are learning, rather than just spit back information.

I have been teaching ESL students and training their teachers for a while, and found new ideas, and a sewing together of the many fragments of the research knowledgebase. It was an easy read, unlike so much of the research out in the field. I suspect this is one I'll refer to regularly.

I was hesitant about the book at first because it seems awfully small, but it's full of great information. As I'm reading, it's getting me excited and motivated to look into starting an adult ESL program in my area. I love teaching English to adults and am finding this book to have good, solid information on various ESL programs and methods for teaching adults. I also appreciate the lists of additional resources. In fact, I've come back to Amazon to pick up a few of the suggested titles.

Again, I'm really enjoying this book!

It covered a lot a topics. It has given me some interesting things to think about. Since i am outside of the U.S. some of it's specifics were not as useful to me, but that is not a suprise.
