4.0 out of 5 stars fine, August 25, 2007
This review is from: Teaching American History With Favorite Folk Songs: 12 Songs on CD, Song Sheets, and Activities That Teach Key Topics and Help Kids Connect With the People and Events That Shaped Our History (Paperback)
The book itself, the information it provides and the selection of songs are all fine, it's a good, well-rounded book with great illustrations suitable for teaching. I did find it highly ironic, however, that a book purporting to teach American history gets the date and place of the first permanent English colony in North America wrong -- it wasn't Plymouth in 1620, it was Jamestown in 1607. Furthermore, there were numerous French, Dutch and Spanish colonies and outposts all up and down the Atlantic coast of what would become the United States well in advance of the Puritans. In fact, the first Dutch colony in the new world was founded near Albany, NY, five years before Plymouth.
