About the Author

Jim "Fletch" Fanjoy has over 20 years of archery experience, and has instructed hundreds of young archers at summer camps across the country. He makes his own bows, arrows, and tackle. Archery is a generations-old tradition in his family, being passed down from his grandfather (a champion archer in California in the early fifties) to his father to him.

As one who has taught archery to children for eight or nine years in various scenarios from summer camps to monthly meetings, to family members ranging in age from 6 yrs to adults, I had certain preconceptions about this book when it was given to me. The book was written in part for those who have never picked up a bow before. This book provides a pretty good basis for this, however, many things such as anchor point seem too "glossed over" for one unfamiliar with shooting form. More instruction or at least familiarity would be necessary for a novice to be competent to coach an archery program. I did enjoy how the book placed more focus on teaching than adult self instruction as is the focus of most of the literature.
I must say that there were a few things in the book that I had never read or thought of before. Even an old dog can pick up a thing or two now and then. One sometimes gets bogged down into one method after a while, and it takes something to shake it up a bit to open the eyes again. This book can do that.
The information is not new, nor is it groundbreaking, but it is put into a concise, fairly clear form, and is written in a manner that is pleasing to read. The book would not stand completely on it's own, but anyone teaching an archery program, no matter haw long they have been in the game, would benefit from reading this book.

As a Camp Director, this book was an amazing resource to our Archery Specialist and staff last summer. The descriptions, creativity, and illustrations make it a must have for anyone working with youth and archery!

The book was very through. Covering sample lessons, range design, type of bow, and projects for the young student. A great book for someone who has just been handed the task of teaching archery to kids in a camp or other summer time situation.

My grandson loved getting a book along with his new bow and arrow at Christmas. It gave him such confidence.

This book has a lot of information about archery and its history. It's worth having in a small library but not the book I had hoped for coaching young shooters.
