5.0 out of 5 stars Busan Kevin in Japan March 27, 2012
By Dan-o
This guy knows his stuff. He has been vlogging on youtube for years about living and teaching in Asia. I'm sure that most people who have researched teaching in Asia used some of the information Kevin has provided to help them get started. He has over 10 years experience teaching in South Korea and Japan. On top of his experience, he's a great guy. Subscribe to his youtube channels for more information (jlandkev and BusanKevin).

5.0 out of 5 stars An instruction manual for wannabe ALTs March 28, 2012

There are plenty of books out there describing the authors experiences with teaching in Asia. However, I have yet to see any that give such clear information on what to look for in an ESL job BEFORE you pack your bags. Things like what questions to ask companies & recruiters you interview with to make sure you're getting The Real Deal and not landing in a miserable place. Oh, and there are plenty of life stories in the book as well. Kevin is the proverbial Horses Mouth - he's speaking from experience in both education and life.

This is a MUST READ for anyone planning on teaching as an ALT in Asia who has no idea where to start. It's an ideal book for those who THINK they know what they're getting into as well - I'm sure it will bring up questions you never knew to ask. And for those (like me), who are just enthusiasts of Asian countries and culture - it's extremely entertaining and written by someone who's been there, done that, and is happy to share it all with the world.

I downloaded this book right after I was aware that it was available for sale. I read the whole thing straight through in about 4-5 hours. GREAT book. Loads of very helpful information along with some great stories about Kevin's experiences in Japan and South Korea. Highly recommended to anyone with an interest in teaching or traveling abroad. Will definitely read again.
