5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous resource for teachers and curriculum developers, January 21, 2012
This amazing book gives activity ideas for teaching reading in all content areas. If you are wondering how to help your students develop, retain, and use the vocabulary specific to a content subject, such as math, science, or social studies, this is the book for you! If you are wondering how to help your students read the materials in your subject area more effectively, this is the book for you.
I am a curriculum developer who uses this book as a resource on every project. The content Martha Ruddell has gathered and research she has sited has helped numerous teachers transform their instruction. She also provides exciting lesson plans for the activities. My copy is getting worn from so much use!

This has turned out to be a great resource! It was a required text for a class but I have really enjoyed the read.

This is one of my most favorite books for teaching literacy across the curriculum. Ruddell has great strategies and lesson plans for writing across the curriculum.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than the rest, February 2, 2001

I generally loathe ed books and have found most to be pretty useless to the actual teacher in a real classroom. Not so Ms. Rapp Ruddell's book! In Mary Ellen Vogt's class at Cal State Long Beach, we had the benefit of reading this book in Galley form.

IT IS SO WORTH IT.

I don't know about the second and third edition, but this first one is GOLD! BUY IT!
