About the Author

Sean Walmsley is a professor in the Reading Department at the State University of New York at Albany. He has taught in both elementary and secondary schools and is the author of several books, including Children Exploring Their World: Theme Teaching in Elementary School and No Quick Fix: Rethinking Literacy Programs in America's Elementary Schools, both published by Heinemann. He has also written many articles for journals such as Language Arts, The Reading Teacher, and Instructor.

Bonnie Walmsley is Marc Brown's sister, and the inspiration for his character, Francine. For the past 22 years, Bonnie has taught Headstart, first and second grade, and currently teaches kindergarten at Karigon Elementary School in Clifton Park, NY. She is the co-author of Kindergarten‹Ready or Not? A Parent's Guide (Heinemann).

I have definitely had my money's worth out of this text. Marc Brown's sister is a teacher so this is a well written resource for teachers. Arthur is such a lovable and real character so the children just adore reading his books and doing the activities. The 2 activities that were the best in my opinion were the 'Thanksgiving' reader's theater and the activity where the students write their own Arthur style story - the activity was really well scaffolded. I used this with a class of Year 1 and 2 children and they wrote fab stories.

Wonderful guide. There are so many topics in the Aurther and D.W. series and this guide is perfect at organizing them and provides great activities. I use it every year in my classroom!
