Excellent Aid to Homeschoolers and Other Teachers, June 7, 2005
This review is from: Teaching with Favorite Eric Carle Books: Creative Activities for Exploring the Themes in These Popular Books and for Building Skills in Writing, Math, (Paperback)
I think that this book would be a marvelous tool for teachers and home educators. It is loaded with good, easy to implement, ideas on how to extend a `read' into more of a lesson.
For example, this book includes ideas on:
Vocabulary building games
Fun phonics lessons
Poems to share
Hands-on math
Science investigations
Interactive displays
Movement games
Art projects
for the following Eric Carle books:
The Very Hungry Caterpillar
Pancakes, Pancakes
Have You Seen My Cat?
The Mixed-Up Chameleon
The Grouchy Ladybug
The Tiny Seed
The Very Busy Spider
Papa, Please Get The Moon For Me
A House For Hermit Crab
Today Is Monday
The Very Lonely Firefly
The Very Clumsy Click Beetle
Since it is out of print (as soooo many GREAT books seem to be) I won't go on, but only say that you ought to try to track it down if you are interested in ideas of how to enlarge a reading of a book such as the Very Hungry Caterpillar into a lesson on counting, life cycles, change, nature and nutrition.
