Book Description

January 15, 2001 Book & Cdrom
Book with CD-Rom

With 150,000 copies in print, the original Teaching Gifted Kids in the Regular Classroom is a perennial best-seller. Teachers everywhere call it “the orange bible” and turn to it daily to make sure their gifted students are getting the learning opportunities they need and deserve. Since the first edition was published, author Susan Winebrenner has spent eight years using it with school districts, teachers, parents, and kids across the U.S. and the U.K. This revised, expanded, updated edition reflects her personal experiences and the changes that have taken place in education over the years. Her basic philosophy hasn’t changed, and all of the proven, practical, classroom-tested strategies teachers love are still here. But there’s now an entire chapter on identifying gifted students. The step-by-step how-tos for using the strategies are more detailed and user-friendly.

I have been using this book since it was first published, and recently purchased the latest edition. Though I've read dozens of books on giftedness, this is the book I give to parents and teachers to introduce them to the subject. I still find Winebrenner's counsel valuable for my own teaching and interaction with gifted students. This book would be excellent for a teaher's workshop or monthly teachers' meetings.

5.0 out of 5 stars practical for classroom use March 26, 2010
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I purchased this book to help me review for the EXCET GT exam. I have found this book to be practical and set up so it can be incorporated into the average classroom. The author aslo includes philosophy behind the activities. I recommend this book to any teacher who is looking to improve his/her typical classroom. Be prepared for a bit of work though.

5.0 out of 5 stars INVALUABLE RESOURCE FOR PARENTS April 20, 2012
Format:Paperback
As the parent of a highly gifted child this book is an invaluable resource. How I wish every teacher would read it and incorporate these common sense practices that help not only gifted kids in a regular classroom, but all students in the class!

I use the many helpful worksheets w/ my child to better his classroom and homework experiences. It has also helped me help his teachers keep him engaged.
